Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters Degree scholarship awards EU-funded scholarships to the best student candidates annually. However, the master’s study must occur in at least two program countries (EU and Non-EU countries). Part of the master’s study can also occur in Partner Countries (Other non-European countries) if a partner-country institution is involved.

About the EMJMD Scholarship
Erasmus+ administers the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Degree (EMJMD) scholarship. Erasmus+ is the EU’s program to support education, training, youth, and sport in Europe. With a budget of €14.7 billion Erasmus+ will provide opportunities for over 4 million Europeans to study, train, and gain experience abroad.
The Erasmus+ is set to last until 2020, yet its opportunities are not limited to only students. This Erasmus Mundus organization merged with seven prior programs to provide opportunities for a wide variety of individuals and organizations.
This organization’s opportunities are for people of all ages, helping them develop and share knowledge and experience at institutions and organizations in different countries. It also has opportunities for a wide range of organizations, including universities, education and training providers, think-tanks, research organizations, and private businesses.
However, the EMJMD program – one of the Erasmus+ programs – provides EU, Non-EU, and selected International students the opportunities to complete a Master’s degree in Europe universities. It also allows students to apply to a maximum of three different programs.
Level/Field of study
The Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Degree Scholarship is available to Master’s students. The scholarship covers degrees in over 50 fields of study offered by a Consortium of European Universities. Some of these disciplines include Agriculture and Veterinary, Engineering, manufacturing and Construction, and Health and Welfare.

Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Degree Scholarship is open to EU and Non-EU Countries students. It is also open to students from other countries of the world that are not in the Europe continent as listed by Erasmus Mundus. Scholarship Benefits
To enjoy the benefits of the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Degree scholarship, you must first be admitted for a course by the organizing consortium and then be selected for an EMJMD scholarship.
The EMJMD scholarship covers your participation costs (including the tuition fees, library and laboratory costs, full insurance coverage and any other mandatory costs related to your participation in the Master). It also represents a contribution to your travel and installation costs and includes a monthly subsistence allowance for the entire duration of the study program.
The total amount of this Erasmus+ scholarship varies according to the duration of your course and your nationality (non-EU students receive larger scholarships).
However, at least 75% of the scholarships is awarded to candidates from Partner countries.
Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Degree Scholarship Eligibility
The following are the eligibility criteria for the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Scholarship Program 2023.
- Students at the Master’s level worldwide can apply
- According to national legislation and practices, you must have obtained a first higher education degree or demonstrate a recognized equivalent level of learning in the degree-awarding countries.
- If you have already received an EMJMD or an Erasmus Mundus Master Course/Joint Doctorate scholarship, you are not eligible for an additional EMJMD scholarship. You cannot benefit from another EU-funded scholarship scheme while receiving an EMJMD scholarship.
This Eramsmus+ scholarship master’s program is a study program of 60, 90 or 120 ECTS credits. Thus, it lasts from a minimum of 12 months to a maximum of 24 months.
Also, the successful completion of the study program will lead to the award of either a joint degree or multiple degrees. A joint degree offers one single degree certificate issued on behalf of at least two higher education institutions of the EMJMD consortium. On the other hand, multiple degrees offers at least two-degree certificates issued by two higher education institutions of the consortium.
How to Apply for the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship
To apply for the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Scholarship, you’ll have to check out the online EMJMD Catalogue 2023 and contact the consortium offering the Master Course for more information on courses and application procedures.
A new batch of selected EMJMDs is added to the list each summer. Most consortia will require applications to be submitted between October and January, for courses starting the following academic year.

EMJMD Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Students are selected by the individual EMJMDs, which have their own selection procedures.
The application process, the deadlines, and the entrance criteria may vary from course to course.
You have to choose which nationality you want to apply.
Erasmus+ can invite a scholar/guest lecturer more than once in the same EMJMD, even within the same academic year.
Scholars/guest lecturers can be academic staff or practitioners. They may come from Program or Partner countries and their involvement should bring an added value to the EMJMD students.
The minimum duration per engagement of a scholar/guest lecturer is one week (4 to 7 consecutive days). You should agree upon the details of the hosting period with the Coordinator of the course.
If you need to temporarily interrupt your studies, you should immediately contact the Coordinator of your EMJMD. You have to agree on any interruption with the Coordinator. If you have to temporarily leave the EMJMD course for justified reasons, your scholarship may be put on hold for a certain period of time until you are again physically present and can actively continue pursuing the course activities.
Erasmus+ scholarships are designed as full-time scholarships. As such, they should provide enough resources for students to be able to concentrate on their studies without the necessity of paid employment.
