About Adolescent Engagement in HIV Research in Africa

Adolescents across Africa are participating in HIV research in groundbreaking ways, creating a higher standard for practical participation in research.

The youths must be interested in the design, execution, and dissemination of research results in sub-Saharan HIV research.

In collaboration with AHISA and sister organizations, The organizer ( 4YouthByYouth) is offering an open call for crowdsourcing. Note, crowdsourcing has a community of people attempting to solve a problem and then exchanging ideas with the public.

What is the core aim of this program?

The aim of this open call for crowdsourcing is to seek innovative forms in which adolescents (14-24 years of age) will be involved in HIV research studies in Africa.

Submissions to this open call will be used to inform the study and help produce a manuscript on the same subject.

What is the application submission Format?

The Texts will not be less than 500 words. The expected image size is 5MB or less, and the video is 3 mimutes or less. Note, submissions will be through Email, WhatsApp and Google forms.

Also, submissions will be accepted in all languages. At the same time, if the language of submission is not English or French, a translated version of the submission will also be required.

The Judgment Process

All submissions will be reviewed by three to five independent judges.

Judging criteria will include the following:

  • Innovation – 2 points;
  • Feasibility in Africa – 2 points;
  • Clear description of youth engagement – 2 points;
  • Extent or degree of youth engagement – 2 points;
  • Scalability in diverse African settings – 2 points.

Prizes

The crowdsourcing organizer will create participation awards on the basis of merit. The awards will only be granted to teens. And the prizes for winning adult submissions would be awarded to chosen teens affiliated with submissions.

However, the overall budget for all prizes is USD 2500. Both finalists will earn at least USD 250 as prizes, and the exact number and allocation of prizes will be agreed upon.

Selected finalists will be involved in co-creating the manuscript as co-authors. All those who have a mean score of 7/10 or greater will receive a commendation.
