Caribbean School of Medicine offers a US-modeled MD program to prepare you for medical practice in the U.S., Canada, and beyond.

The Doctor of Medicine program at AUC combines intense classroom study, simulated exercises, and community service.

As an AUC student, you will start your path to becoming a physician in St. Maarten or Preston, United Kingdom. Over five semesters, you will be free to interact with your medical teachers and classmates on your campus to participate in intensive study of the medical sciences.

The objective of the AUC curriculum is to assist you in becoming an adaptable expert with a command of medical concepts and the ability to apply this knowledge to guide patient diagnosis and treatment. As a result, AUC students begin with clinical experience and expand it each semester until it is the exclusive focus of the fifth semester.

The Medical Education Readiness Program (MERP) is a 15-week medical school introductory program offered to students granted conditional acceptance to AUC. It’s designed to equip students with the additional academic preparation to encourage medical school success.  

MERP is designed to prepare students to succeed at AUC by:

  • Hold an offer of admission to AUC as a first-semester student

Award Details

$4,760 will be awarded for each semester of enrollment in the MD program, during the first five (5) semesters of enrollment, with a maximum lifetime value of $23,800. 

For incoming students admitted prior to the May 2023 semester, the eligibility requirements were a minimum undergraduate overall GPA of 3.30* or a minimum MCAT score of 500, and an offer of admission to AUC as a first-semester student

#2 Dean’s academic scholarship

This $47,600 grant, equivalent to two semesters of tuition, is given to candidates with a high overall undergraduate GPA or MCAT score. This grant is exclusively available to eligible entering first-semester AUC students. (The award amount has been increased from $46,480 to $56,480 for students starting on or after August 30, 2023. Amounts previously granted to current students will not change).

Award Details

$4,760 will be awarded for each semester of enrollment of the MD program, during the first ten (10) semesters of enrollment where tuition charges are applied in the semester, with a maximum lifetime value of $47,600.

#3 Trustee’s academic excellence scholarship

This $71,400 scholarship, which is equivalent to 3 semesters’ worth of tuition, is for students who have a solid overall undergraduate GPA or MCAT score. It is automatically awarded to qualified, incoming first-semester AUC students only. (The award amount was updated from $69,720 for the students beginning on or after August 30, 2023. Previously awarded amounts for current students will not change).

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for the Trustee Academic Excellence Scholarship, you need to have:

  • Minimum undergraduate overall GPA of 3.70* or a minimum MCAT score of 510 (current version of the MCAT).
  • Hold an offer of admission to AUC as a first-semester student

Award Details

$7,140 will be granted for each semester of enrollment of the MD program, typically the first ten (10) semesters of enrollment where tuition charges are applied in the semester, with a maximum lifetime value of $71,400.

#4 First generation scholarship for medical school

This $50,000 scholarship is granted to students who are aiming to be first-generation physicians within their immediate families (includes spouse/partner, sibling, child by blood, adoption or marriage, grandparent, and grandchild).

Eligibility requirements

  • Incoming first-semester students and transfer students are eligible for this scholarship.
  • Hold an undergraduate degree (bachelor’s level)
  • Complete the award application
  • Personal essay (minimum of 500 words): How will the experience of being a first-generation physician within your immediate family impact the patients and communities you will ultimately serve? In addition, you are expected to share your immediate family’s educational and employment background.

#5 Merp success scholarship

Our curricula and philosophy are rooted in collaboration and community at the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine (AUC). Through MERP Success Scholarship, incoming students who have successfully completed the MERP program are awarded the scholarship.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

To be eligible, you need:

  • Completion of MERP with a 70% grade or higher
  • Matriculation to AUC for the MD program

Award Details

  • Scholarship awards ranging from a maximum lifetime value of $18,500 to $55,000
  • Actual award amount determined by MERP grade
  • Allocation of scholarship money to be spread out evenly between the academic semesters 3-10 of the MD program
  • Suppose the total tuition assessed for the term is less than all qualifying scholarships’ planned semester award amount. In that case, the total semester award is prorated to match the total tuition assessed. This does not affect the scholarship’s lifetime limit; any residual cash from the grant will be carried forward until the lifetime maximum is fulfilled.

#6 Medical Scholarship for Canadian citizens

This USD 80,000 scholarship is awarded to qualified applicants who are Canadian citizens, permanent residents of Canada, or those who hold dual US-Canadian citizenship.

  • Incoming first-semester students and transfer students are eligible for this scholarship.
