What are the Admission Requirements at BI Norwegian Business School?  

BI Norwegian Business School offers admission into its undergraduate, master, and PhD programs to qualified students from all over the world. Its admissions process is highly selective and based on merit in academics, character, and leadership. 

For undergraduate admissions, the requirements are:

  • The online application as directed by the BI Norwegian Business School website.
  • Copies of your official high school transcripts and diploma, including a key to the grade scale, used.
  • A one-page CV detailing relevant education, work, and volunteer experience, and any academic, sport, or leadership achievements.
  • Personal motivation letter, written in English.
  • Letter of recommendation addressed to BI Norwegian Business School, preferably from your high school principal.
  • A copy of the identification page in your International passport.
  • A financial declaration that shows how you intend to finance your living expenses, tuition, and other expenses related to completing your degree. This will be required for all years of the Bachelor’s program. 
  • TOEFL/IELTS test score: This is mandatory for applicants whose first language is not English, or whose countries of origin are not Scandinavian or Nordic.
    To submit, upload a copy of your score report to the online application, or ask that it be forwarded to BI Norwegian Business School from the test centre.
    However, applicants whose first language is English or who have studied in English for many years may request a waiver for this requirement. TOEFL Institution Code: 0529

IELTS copies are also accepted if the TRF number is visible. In such cases, the minimum scores are; TOEFL: a total of 78 points for the online test and 550 points for the paper-based test. IELTS: a score of 6.0.

BI Norwegian Business School Admission Requirements for Master’s Programmes:

BI Norwegian Business School has a strong preference for candidates who have an international mindset, strong academic ability, as well as excellent leadership, volunteering, and experiential abilities.

To be successfully considered for admission into the Master’s programs, you are required to present;

  • A financial declaration that shows how you intend to finance your living expenses, tuition, and other expenses related to completing your degree. As this is an EU regulation for international students from outside of the EU, this will be required for both years of the Master’s program
  • A copy of the identification page in your International passport
  • Copies of your official university transcripts and degrees/certificates/diplomas, including a key to the grade scale, used. (For applicants who are yet to complete their undergraduate degree program, a copy of the most recent transcript and a list of courses to be taken in your final semester will be sufficient)
    ALL transcripts and diplomas must be in English or accompanied by a certified English translation if the originals are not in English or a Scandinavian language.
  • Personal motivation letter, written in English, describing your dreams, goals, and ambitions, detailing how they led to your choice of MSc programme at BI Norwegian Business School, and how the MSc programme will help you achieve your career and personal goals. The letter should not exceed a single page
  • One-page CV detailing relevant education, work and volunteer experience, and any academic, sport, or leadership achievements.
  • TOEFL/IELTS test score: This is mandatory for applicants whose first language is not English, or whose countries of origin are not Scandinavian or Nordic
  • GMAT/GRE test score: This is mandatory if your bachelor’s degree is from a country outside Norway/Nordics. These standardized tests are used by business schools around the world to test applicants’ readiness for Master’s programs

The institution codes for the above tests are; GMAT: 0529, GRE Institution code: 7365, GRE: 152 (verbal); 158 (quantitative), GMAT 600 points, TOEFL: 575 points for a written test or 233 for the computer-based version, or, 90 points on the internet-based test.

It is important to note that the IELTS copies are accepted if the TRF number is visible. Again, for candidates applying for a Master’s Programme that is taught in Norwegian, your CV and motivation letter must be written in Norwegian.

Also, applicants should familiarize themselves with their programme-specific admission requirements (available on the institution’s website).

Admission Requirements into the PhD programme at BI Norwegian

Students applying for PhD programs must:

  • Formally apply to be accepted into the PhD program at BI Norwegian Business School, presenting all relevant documents. 
  • Hold a two-year scientific Master’s degree (MSc) (120 ECTS) with a B average or better.
  • Hold a Master’s degree that includes thesis work (15 to 30 ECTS).
  • Have at least five years of higher education.
  • Hold a Master’s degree within the fields of economics and business administration or an area in which BI offers a Ph.D. specialization.
  • Hold degree(s) from an accredited institution or an institution recognized by NOKUT (Norwegian Agency for Quality Assurance in Education). 
  • In particular cases, GMAT or GRE tests and/or TOEFL or IELTS tests may be required. Applicants will be informed if this is needed.
  • TOEFL / IELTS scores must be from within the last two years. However, exemptions to the TOEFL / IELTS requirement may be granted for certain applicants. To apply for a TOEFL / IELTS waiver, please download the waiver application form and submit it with your admission documents.
