This year marks the 32nd year of the BP Community Scholarship Program serving the New York and northern New Jersey area. Since its inception, the program has awarded over $3.2 million and is approaching 2,000 scholarships benefiting promising students.

Each year their scholarship awardees are honored at a scholarship reception.

This annual event provides an opportunity to recognize the scholarship awardees along with their families. Also, it provides an opportunity for our students to meet BP representatives and other invited dignitaries.

Eligible Nationality

For the Bp community scholarship Application, only students who are residents of New York City, Westchester County, and or northern New Jersey are eligible to apply.

Scholarship Worth

BP offered scholarships to up to 10 students award worth up to £9,000 each. With scholars receiving £3,000 from their second year for the duration of their degree (up to four years).

The scholarship is not intended to cover fees, but offer students support with the costs of resources and living. However, BP scholars will also have the opportunity to engage in a range of activities such as conferences as well as being fast-tracked for internships or graduate employment.

Eligibility For BP Community Scholarship Program

To be considered for a BP Community Scholarship, you must meet all of the following criteria:

  • A current high school senior planning to enroll as a full-time student (12 semester hours or more) in an accredited two or four-year college or university in the U.S. for the 2023-2024 academic year.
  • Legally reside in New York City, Long Island, Westchester County or northern New Jersey.
  • Possess at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
  • Be able to demonstrate financial need.

Selection Criteria

Awards will be based on the information provided on the application, the personal statement, academic performance, extracurricular activities, work experience, individual goals and demonstrated financial need.

Scholarship recipients will be selected by a committee of participating station owners and operators and other representatives based on the above criteria. All applicants will be notified in May. Scholarship awardees will be required to attend the BP scholarship reception to be held on June 20 at Citi Field.

Instruction

Applicants will be required to upload a 500 – 750 word personal statement addressing all of the following questions:

  • What have been the most important experiences during your high school years that have prepared you for college?
  • What do you wish to achieve from your college education?
  • Why should you be considered for a BP Community Scholarship?

Applicants for BP scholarship must submit an official high school transcript.

Applicants must submit a copy of their Student Aid Report (SAR) including the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) from the information provided on their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Application for BP community scholarship program is always around the 20th of March every year.

BP Scholarship For OXFORD Students

The BP Scholarships are available for undergraduate students starting at Oxford in 2023. They must be studying a defined list of STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), as well as Economics and Management.

The program, launched in 2012, focuses on supporting the education and development of the next generation of engineers and scientists. This is done by building the skills and knowledge needed to work in the energy industry. Students in receipt of a BP Scholarship will receive £3,000 per annum from their second year of study.

How Do I Apply?

To be selected as a BP Scholar, applicants must complete an online application form, a situational judgement questionnaire, short online numerical and verbal tests, and a face-to-face interview with BP. Eligible students will be contacted when applications open and invited to apply.

Other Information

Eligible subjects: Chemistry, Computer Science, Earth Sciences, Economics and Management, Engineering Science, Materials Science, Mathematics, Mathematics, and Computer Science, Mathematics and Statistics, and Physics. Please note that students studying a joint honors course not listed cannot apply for the BP Scholarship.

Students will be expected to remain in good academic standing in order to continue receiving the award each year.

As a BP Scholar you will have the opportunity to take part in a range of activities, including a two to three day interactive event designed to help students understand more about the oil and gas industry. You will also receive a fast track to an internship or graduate interview.

Please note, if you are successful in being selected as a BP Scholar this will not affect your entitlement to any Oxford bursaries of which you may be in receipt. However, if students are in receipt of any other external funding, it is their own responsibility to verify with their sponsor if there are any restrictions on their eligibility.
