Broward College is a public school located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, United States of America. The school was established in 1959 as the “Junior College of Broward Country”, as part of a move to broaden Florida’s two-year colleges. However, in 2008 it adopted its current name “Broward College”.

The school opened the following year under the leadership of President Joe B. Rushing, with a faculty of 28 serving a class of 701 students until the college’s first permanent buildings were completed in 1963.

Broward College has close to 5,000 part-time and full-time faculty and staff. Overall, the institution serves over 63,000 students annually.
 
Broward College offers Study Abroad programs in various countries, such as; Spain, Germany, Italy, England, India, and Vietnam, allowing students to complete coursework for college credit at institutions throughout the world, therefore gaining valuable cultural experiences as well as academic achievement. Scholarships At Broward College

The 2021/20222 scholarships at Broward College is now open, apply now. The process of application for scholarships as a student of Broward College follows the pattern below;

  • Complete all steps on Apply for Financial Aid. (International students are not required to complete the FAFSA.)
  • Be admitted to the College in a degree or eligible certificate program of study.
  • Be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits.
  • Have a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA.
  • Complete the online scholarship application. You must log in to the application using your BC email and password.

Another scholarship platform open to students of Broward College, is the American dream scholarship. American dream provides an opportunity for Broward students who have completed at least 75% of their degree program.

The process for applying for American dream scholarships are;

  • Applicants must have a minimum 2.0 GPA.
  • They must have an EFC score of 2,100 to 6,500 (as determined by FAFSA completion).
  • Applicants must reside in the tri-county area (Miami-Dade, Broward, or Palm Beach County).

Note that a well-written ‘thank you’ letter from a student is special to the scholarship donor. The letter will encourage the scholarship donor to continue supporting the educational endeavours of students benefiting from the opportunity.


Outside scholarships check: If a student receives a scholarship that is not awarded by Broward College, such student should take his or her scholarship check to the Cashier’s Office.

This applies to ALL checks, including those which are received as a result of a scholarship award posted to the beneficiary account. Checks should not be sent to the Financial Aid Office, as the Financial Aid Office does not process checks.

Doing so will cause a delay in posting the beneficiary scholarship award. However, the awarded student must be currently enrolled at Broward College, else the Cashier’s Office will not accept the check.

In relation to scholarships at Broward College, there are certain things to consider:

  • All communication regarding scholarship awards will be through student’s Broward College email.
  • You may also be eligible for external scholarships.
  • Broward College is required by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to determine the tax status of all students receiving payments from the college. Student payments may include financial aid grants, scholarships, prize monies, and/or rent. Upon determination of tax status, the college may be required to report and/or withhold federal income tax from a payment.
  • Refer to IRS Publication 970 for Scholarships, Fellowship Grants, Grants, and Tuition Reductions regulations.
  • You may use this tool, provided by the IRS, to determine if the educational assistance you receive is taxable.
