Education USA Scholars Program For Rwandan Students

Are you a Rwandan Student? Quickly apply for the EducationUSA Scholars Program 2023 immediately to aid you in studying in the USA for low or no cost.

The EducationUSA office at the Public Affairs Section of the United States Embassy–Kigali seeks to identify and recruit  Rwandan students who scored 75% and above in Senior 4, Senior 5, and Senior 6 to join the EducationUSA Scholars Program (ESP).

About EducationUSA

EducationUSA’s mission is to assist our Scholars in negotiating the admissions process in U.S. colleges and universities to better their academic futures and to produce highly-skilled and widely-educated leaders to build tomorrow’s Rwanda.

Each month, the EducationUSA Adviser hosts an open presentation for all levels of interested students. All presentations are one hour long and will occur in the U.S. Embassy Library and IRC (Information Resource Center).

Arrive early to check-in, and bring a photo I.D. to enter. The schedule is as follows, with short descriptions of each presentation:

About Education USA, Rwanda

EducationUSA Kigali actively promotes the United States higher education by offering accurate, comprehensive, objective, and timely information about educational opportunities in the United States and guidance to qualified Rwandan students on how best to access those opportunities.

The EducationUSA Kigali Advising Center includes a small educational library of reference guides and catalogs from various U.S. colleges and universities at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

We do not limit the program geographically; however, students must be able to reach our offices in Kigali as required for full participation.

ESP students will work with the EducationUSA Adviser in 2023 to try and secure admission and financial aid to begin classes at U.S. colleges and universities for the Fall 2023 school term.

Level/Field of study:

Scholarships are available for pursuing the undergraduate program in any field of study.

Host Nationality:

The scholarship will take place in the USA.

Eligible Nationality:

The scholarship is open to Rwandan students.

Scholarship Benefits:

The Education USA Advising Center works with students through regularly scheduled training sessions to assist them throughout the application process to secure admission and financial aid from universities in the United States.

The Centre, in turn, expects a sincere commitment from the students to give back their energy and time to the program and their communities.

Eligibility:

To qualify for this scholarship, you must meet the following criteria.

• A solid academic record and be actively involved in co-curricular and leadership activities.
• Have a strong record of giving back to your community and demonstrate financial need.
• Only students who will graduate from secondary school in November 2023 are eligible to apply. Students who graduated in 2023 and years prior are not eligible.

Application Procedure:

Students must fully complete the application to apply for the 2023 EducationUSA Scholars Program (ESP).

ONLY typed application essays will be considered (The essay may be found in the 2023 ESP application form).

• Complete the application form. You may download the 2023 ESP APPLICATION FORM HERE (PDF-266 KB).
• Letters of recommendation form attesting to your character, talent, and skills completed by a teacher, school administrator, priest/pastor or NGO, or community leader who knows you well.
• Attach scanned copies of school reports or academic transcripts from Senior 4, Senior 5, and Senior 6. All school reports should have an official stamp from an applicant’s high school.
• Write two essays from the application prompts, each of 250–500 words. Submit your essay along with your application materials to [email protected]

Applying for USA Student Visa

Generally, any visa applicant coming to the United States to attend an approved educational course requires a Student Visa.

Upon acceptance to a U.S. school the student plans to attend, the student will be enrolled in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS).

The U.S. school will provide instructions on completing the SEVIS I-901 fee and associated signatures through the SEVIS system.

The school will enter the principal applicant’s name in the SEVIS system and any family members who plan to travel with the principal applicant to generate the necessary I-20 form(s). Each family member must receive their I-20.

If the family members do not apply with the principal applicant, a copy of the original I-20 issued by the principal visa holder’s school will be required. Visit the U.S.

Continuing students may apply for a new visa at any time, as long as they have maintained student status and their current SEVIS (http://www.ice.gov/sevis) records. Continuing students may also enter the United States at any time before their classes start.

Steps required to apply for a US Visa

If required to apply for a Visa to travel to the United States, the process includes the following steps:

1. Determine the type of Visa required to travel to the United States. Information about Visa types can be found at https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/visa-information-resources/all-visa-categories.html.
2. Complete the online visa application form, DS-160. The DS-160 is a U.S. Government online form and can only be completed at https://ceac.state.gov/CEAC. Each applicant must complete this form before using any services on this website.
3. Return to this website and complete the following application steps to schedule a Consular Section appointment:
   • Create a user account
   • Enter the DS-160 confirmation number for each applicant applying for a Visa.
   • Pay the Nonimmigrant Visa (MRV) application fee(s)
   • Schedule a Consular Section appointment
4. Attend the Consular Section appointment.

Note: Applicants of a particular age group or those renewing a previous U.S. visa may be eligible to apply for a visa without attending a Consular interview.

Eligibility for the “Interview Waived” program will be determined as the applicant goes through the process of scheduling an appointment through this site.

The determination will be made based on the answers provided to the qualifying criteria.

General Required Documents – For All Visa Types

The following documents are required for all visa types:

1. The current Passport is valid for travel to the United States. The passport must be valid for at least six months beyond the stay in the United States (unless exempt by country-specific agreements.)
2. A passport containing the most recently issued U.S. Visa (if applicable).
3. Nonimmigrant Visa Application, Form DS-160 confirmation page.
4. Confirmation and Instructions page printed from this website
5. One 5 x 5 cm (2 x 2 inches) color photo taken within the last six months. Further details regarding the Department of State photo guidelines can be found at https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/visa-information-resources/photos.html.
6. Unless entering the United States for another purpose, accompanying family members should present a marriage certificate (spouse) and birth certificate (for unmarried children under 21), as applicable.

If you are attending an in-person appointment, you must bring original documents. Suppose you are eligible to send your documents via courier. In that case, you must send your current valid passport and the previous passport containing the most recently issued U.S Visa (if applicable), the DS-160 confirmation page, and copies of any other supporting documents.

Additional requested documents for an in-person interview may include evidence of:

• The purpose of your trip
• Your intent to depart the United States after your trip; and
• Your ability to pay for all the costs of your journey.
• Evidence of your employment and family ties may be sufficient to show the purpose of your trip and your intent to return to your home country.
• If you cannot cover all the costs for your trip, you may show evidence that another person will cover some or all of the expenses for your trip.
