New Futures Fellowship Program 2022

Application for New Futures Fellowship Program 2022 is ongoing!

We welcome applications from anywhere in the world for a three-month online fellowship that melds rigorous research with advocacy, to create new approaches to sustainability.

Why this fellowship?

The good news: Young people are at the forefront of climate activism, with urgent demands for decision-makers to move fast and decisively. But right now, progress is too slow to address the scale of the crisis and focus on the people who bear the most devastating effects of climate change. The movement for climate justice needs everyone to get involved and to keep building new pathways to progress.

The New Futures Fellowship offers an opportunity to do this. The Fellowship program brings together researchers and advocates from different disciplines, countries, and backgrounds to share their expertise and commitment to change.

This year’s themes of health, the music industry, and Web3 offer opportunities to formulate practical ways forward to real-world problems. In each of these areas, Fellowship teams will work collaboratively to select a focus that is grounded in concrete evidence and the potential to accelerate change.

Sustainable Partners, Inc and our partners will work with the Fellows’ research and advocacy strategies and materials to make them highly visible to the public and reach key audiences who can influence policy and practice.

New Futures Fellowship Themes for 2022: Health, Music, and Web3

How?

2022 Fellows will work cooperatively in teams of four (two Research Fellows and two Advocacy Fellows) in each of the three thematic areas. Each group will choose a specific project topic and work together on academic research and on promoting their research findings.

Fellows will work under a professional research and advocacy advisor and will receive guidance from external experts on their chosen theme. Fellows benefit from special guest speakers on sustainability from the worlds of academia, politics, business, journalism, and activism as well as skills training in advocacy and effective public communications.

Based on the policy or project solutions that emerge during the research, the Advocacy Fellows will develop a mini-campaign strategy to advance their solutions using a range of advocacy tools, which could include: defining targets for advocacy, communicating the findings directly to policymakers or experts in the field; identifying potential coalition partners to explore implementation; and engaging public interest in the issue and solution via media, social media, and other forms of public communications.

Final fellowship products will include an academic position paper and related accessible campaigning material including multimedia content and social posts.
