The Gus Archie Memorial Scholarship is supported by the SPE Foundation and awards an outstanding student who plans to enter a university and pursue an undergraduate degree in petroleum engineering.
About SPE Gus Archie Memorial Scholarship
The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) is a not-for-profit professional association whose more than 140,600 members in 144 countries are engaged in oil and gas exploration and production.
SPE is a key resource for technical knowledge providing opportunities to exchange information at in-person and online events and training courses, publications, and other resources. SPE maintains offices in Dallas, London, Dubai, Kuala Lumpur, Calgary, Moscow, and Houston.
SPE manages key industry resources including OnePetro and PetroWiki, in addition to publishing magazines, books, and peer-reviewed journals. We host more than 100 conferences, workshops, and other events each year around the world.
Our community of members shares knowledge, connect with others in their disciplines and local chapters, and support and recognize member achievements in the industry.
Aim and Benefits of SPE Gus Archie Memorial Scholarship
The recipient will receive USD 5,000 per year for up to four years of university study.
Requirements for SPE Gus Archie Memorial Scholarship Qualification
This is a merit-based scholarship. Recipients are typically in the top 3% in both class ranking and standardized test scores.
- Must intend to enroll in petroleum engineering in a recognized university program according to your country or region, leading to an undergraduate degree in petroleum engineering
- Must become an SPE member once eligible
- Comply with sanction policy
- Complete the electronic application submission process
Only applications submitted via the link provided will be accepted. Applications received in any other format will not be eligible.
If awarded, each semester, you must:
- Be enrolled in a petroleum engineering class by the beginning of the second year of university
- Remain in petroleum engineering degree program
- Maintain at least 2/3 of a full academic load
- Have and maintain a satisfactory average of scores/marks for the current semester and cumulative total

Successful applications received payment in August intended to support the following academic term. By applying for this scholarship you are automatically considered for any SPE Scholarship or Fellowship that you meet the eligibility requirements for.
- Submit the online application form by noon CDT (UTC-5) on 15 April.
- You must submit at least one recommendation and documentation for entry exams (if applicable).

Application Deadline
Applications open on 15 November each year and close on 15 April. Judges review all eligible applications and winners are announced on 1 August.
