About WACCI Masters Plant Breeding Scholarships
It has been agreed upon that DAAD cooperates with the West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI) by offering up to 3 In-Country and 6 In-Region scholarships for Master studies at the West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI) for the intake of 2022.
WACCI Masters Plant Breeding Scholarships- Eligibility
Applicants for WACCI Masters Plant Breeding Scholarships:
- have successfully completed generally a three-year university degree (Master candidates) (at least: Second Class/Upper Division)
- clearly show motivation and strong commitment
- have thorough knowledge of the language of instruction
- have generally completed their last university degree not more than 6 years ago at the time of application
- must be nationals or permanent resident of a Sub-Saharan African country
- should generally be a) staff member of a public university, b) candidate considered for teaching or research staff recruitment, c) from the public sector, d) Alumni of the DAFI programme
- Female applicants and candidates from less privileged regions or groups are especially encouraged to participate in the programme.

Value of WACCI Masters Plant Breeding Scholarships:
The scholarship covers:
- Tuition fees* annually
- Study and research allowance annually
- Printing allowance once at the end
- Monthly Scholarship (Accommodation, Food etc.)
- monthly 500 EUR (PhD In-Country)
- 550 EUR (PhD In-Region)
- Travel allowance (In-Region only): twice (beginning/end of scholarship)
- Health insurance(In-Region only)

Application Requirements

- Undergraduate Certificate of Completion
- MPhil Proposal
- Curriculum Vitae
- Email address of (3) referees – Inform your referees before you use their email addresses.
- Application Fee of US$ 110 (Foreign Applicants) and GH¢ 200 (Ghanaian Applicants)
Admission Process
Your admission process will go through the steps below. Please take note of deadlines.
- Complete an online form on the University of Ghana Graduate Admissions Page.
- WACCI to submit shortlisted candidates to DAAD by May 12, 2022
- DAAD will directly contact shortlisted candidates
- Shortlisted candidates are to submit their applications via the DAAD portal by June 15, 2022
- Scholarship awardees to receive notification from DAAD in September 2022
Please note again:
- The latest time for payment of the application fee should be at least two days before the deadline for applications
- Any application received after the deadline will not be considered
- Only paid and successful applicants will be considered for the DAAD scholarships
- Limited scholarships (DAAD) are available for highly qualified applicants
- Submit the following documents to your application portal

- MPhil Proposal, Curriculum Vitae, Passport size photo
