Government of Flanders Master Minds Scholarship Programme

Applications for the Master Minds scholarship program of the Flemish Government are now possible. The Flemish Ministry of Education grants scholarships to outstanding students for Master’s courses in Flanders and Brussels. The program aims to promote Flanders and Brussels as the study destination of choice.

Applications from all Flemish universities, art schools, and the Maritime Academy in Antwerp are accepted. It is estimated that 30 to 40 excellent international students can benefit from the Master Minds scholarship Programme.

The government of Flanders scholarships is only available for International Students.

Scholarship Worth

This Study in Flanders and Brussels annual tuition fee to be covered by the student for the new academic year is 110,8 €.

This rate may increase slightly from year to year. In case of a two-year master programme (120 ECTS), the exact applicable rate will be communicated to the Master Mind beneficiaries before the 1st of September 2020. Travel, visa, and insurance costs are not included in the scholarship.

30 government of Flanders scholarships are available annually.

Duration of scholarship

The duration of mobility is a minimum academic year and maximum the full duration of the master program. If the student obtains less than 45 ECTS in the first year, then he/she loses the scholarship in the second year.

Eligibility For Master Minds Scholarship Program

  • The applicant is applying for a Master’s program at a university in Flanders (hereinafter referred to as “host institution”).
  • The candidate must have a high level of academic achievement and/or potential:
    The student has an average score of 3.0 out of 4.0:
    The student has sufficient knowledge of the English language:
    A total score of 7.0 in the IELTS test band;
    A minimum score of 100 in a TOEFL test;
    A C1 level on the Certificate in Advanced English (CAE);
    or a similar result to another official language test.
  • Applicants for a Master of Arts program must have at least the following:
    An overall rating of at least 6.5 in the IELTS test;
    a total score of at least 90 in the TOEFL test;
    a B2 level on the Certificate in Advanced English (CAE);
    or a similar result to another official English test.
  • The host college also performs an academic exam of the student file. The student must be accepted by the host university to receive the scholarship, even if his or her decision falls after the grant has been awarded to the student.
  • All nationalities can apply. The previously obtained degree must come from a higher education institution outside Flanders.
    Students who are already enrolled at a Flemish university cannot apply.
  • The mobility of students during the Master’s program is permitted. However, at least half of the credits of the Master’s program must be obtained from the Flemish host university.

  • passport photo
  • International passport or national registration card
  • Transcription; If it is written in a language other than Dutch, French or English, a certified translation must be enclosed.
  • English Test Results or Exemption Letter from the host university
  • Letter of motivation written in English
  • Two letters of recommendation from professors at your home university (hitherto) from the University of Science Faculty of the Arts or your last employer in English.
  • copy of the diploma obtained If it is written in a language other than Dutch, French or English, a certified translation must be enclosed.
  • Three reasons for submitting (at least 150 words) the application documents written in English by the host university; Format: Input area in the application form or in a separate document.

How to Apply for Government of Flanders scholarships

Step 1: The candidate submits his application to the host university. Note the internal deadlines set by the host university. Some institutes have a deadline of 15 February 2018!
Step 2: The host institution accepts the candidate’s application.
Step 3: The host institution starts the application process for the Master Mind Scholarship by creating the applicant’s application file in the Mobility Online Tool.
Step 4: The applicant will receive an e-mail generated by the Mobility Online Tool asking them to shortlist for a Master Mind Scholarship.
Step 5: The candidate enters the Mobility Online Tool and completes his application file in the Mobility Online Tool before the deadline expires.
Students can not apply directly. Applications must be submitted by the Flemish host university.
