McDonald’s has given away over $31 million in college resources to over 17,000 Hispanic students.
Those states include the five national scholarships, worth $5,000 to $100,000 each, given out by McDonald’s, and the numerous scholarships handed out by local RMHCs.
For example, the RMHC/HACER scholarship program in the New York Tri-State Area has, to date, given away approximately $8 million to Hispanic students in the New York Tri-State Area.

Why the HACER Scholarship Program?
The HACER Scholarship Program aims to help reduce the barriers for Hispanic students to access higher education.
Approximately 2.3 million Hispanic students enrolled in a college or university in 2014. However, this represents only 35% of the population and 7% less than a similar white demographic.
More disturbingly, the Pew Research Center notes that only 15% of Hispanics aged 25 to 29 had a bachelor’s degree in 2014. Many Hispanics cite funds and family support as a reason for not enrolling in a four-year degree program.
Fortunately, the HACER scholarship allows Hispanic students to navigate the sometimes complex (and always expensive) world of financing for universities and colleges, reducing obstacles.

Types of HACER Scholarships
The best way to get more information about the specific HACER Scholarship available is to visit your McDonald’s, which will have information on local and specific integration centers.
There are more than three hundred advanced medical centers (RMHC), each offering its own Scholarships.
Local grants may or may not be available to DO, but again, check with your local McDonald’s to determine what is available near you.
Eligibility
For you to be qualified for HACER Scholarship, you must:
- be a high school senior
- Be a legal US resident
- be younger than 21 years old
- carry a minimum 3.0 GPA
- be eligible to attend a two- or four‑year college or university with a full-time course of study
- disclose other scholarship programs that you’ve applied for
- enroll and attend an accredited institution in the academic year after your selection (verification needed, as scholarship funds are paid directly to the schools)
- have at least one parent of Latino heritage.
