About Hayfield Secondary School

Hayfield Secondary School is a great public magnet school in Alexandria, VA. This school has over 3,000 students in grades 7-12 with a student-teacher ratio of 16 to 1.

According to state test scores, 65% of students are great in math and 85% in reading. Well, we can attribute this excellence to the great academic and moral support students receive from their tutors.

Funnily enough, this school comes up in Remember the Titans as being “all white.” Solely because at the time of the desegregation of the City of Alexandria’s T. C. Williams High School, a large majority of Hayfield’s students were white, and the racial integration sprung from the day of its first opening in 1968, drawing most of its students of color from the children of military men and women at nearby Fort Belvoir, home to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

In 2005, this school experience excessive crowding which expanded its capacity to over 4,000. This expansion led to serious renovation works and introducing a new administration process. But Hayfield accommodated more students again from a boundary change in South County approved for the 2007-2008 school year.

    • If the student did most recently attend Hayfield SS as an 8th-grade student AND Hayfield Secondary is your address’s school of residence, nothing needs to be completed.
    • If the student did most recently attend Hayfield SS as an 8th-grade student on a student transfer from FCPS, a new Student transfer must be in place to remain at Hayfield in 9th grade.

Hence, if your child fulfills any of the above conditions, then you must live within the boundary. To know if you live within the boundary, kindly use the FCPS boundary locator. And if you are out of the boundary, click on the link below to fill an important form.
