HEC Paris (French: École des Hautes études commerciales de Paris) is an international private business school established in 1881 and located in Jouy-en-Josas, France.

In the first year, students of HEC who attend a class préparatoire are taught fundamental managerial sciences with courses such as economics, accounting, finance, law, psychology, sociology and mathematics (models, operations research, and statistics).

During this first year, students can spend a semester in a foreign university (e.g. Wharton, Bocconi University, Trinity College Dublin, University of British Columbia, etc.). And also enroll in a specific one-year program to get a bachelor’s degree from a French university.

Direct admissions students (including international students) can enter directly into the second year, where they begin a business-intensive program.

The courses include corporate and market finance, accounting, marketing, law, mathematics, management, human resources, and supply chain. Second-year students are also allowed to spend one semester in a foreign university, and at the end of their second year, the students get to choose specific majors.

The students must pass through a less competitive application process. In order to graduate, students are required to undergo 8 months of internships.

Since this is usually difficult during the summer, many of the students take a semester or year off for their internship, generally between the second and third years. The final year of study covers intensive courses in the chosen major.

HEC Paris has numerous double-degree agreements with both French and foreign institutions.

Some of which only make degrees of the partner institution available to HEC students, while others enable selected partner institution students to graduate from HEC. Among the French partner institutions are;

The Institut supérieur des affairs are the department of HEC that manages it’s Master in Business Administration (MBA) program.

Although knowledge of French is not an entry requirement, participants are highly encouraged to have a basic knowledge of French by the start of the MBA Program, while mandatory (during the first two core terms) and optional language courses are offered throughout the program.

The HEC Executive MBA is a program for top executives with at least 8 years of corporate experience.

The program prepares the students for general management positions (the average background experience of students is about 14 years). The Executive MBA is a multi-site program offered in Paris (France), Beijing (China), St Petersburg (Russia) and Doha (Qatar).

The courses are split between theory, case studies, strategic projects, leadership training, EU community campus, and foreign exchanges in the US and Asia. Universities partnering on the HEC Executive MBA Program are NYU, UCLA, Babson College in the USA, Tsinghua University in China, and Nihon University in Japan.

HEC also jointly offers the TRIUM Global Executive MBA program with the Stern School of Business of NYU and the London School of Economics. It is divided into six modules that are held in five international business locations over a 16-month period.

Tuition fee and scholarship opportunities to study for an MBA program at HEC.

A non-refundable fee of €8,000 is to be paid within one month of receiving notice of admission, and a tuition fee of € 66,000 can be paid in installments for January 2023 intake.

A non-refundable fee of € 9,000 is to be paid within one month of receiving notice of admission, and a tuition fee of € 69,500 can be paid in installments for September 2023 intake.

All applicants admitted to the HEC Paris MBA will have the opportunity to apply for scholarships. The university offers its students over €1,000,000 in aid every year due to the work and donations of the HEC Foundation.

The Admissions Officer guides applicants on how to source for these scholarships once they have been admitted into the program. The highly competitive scholarships may be merit-based or based on specific criteria; some scholarships may require an essay.

All scholarship applications are to be completed online, and depending on the type of scholarship, applicants may be required to attend an interview and submit an essay. Applicants sponsored for more than 50% of their tuition fees are not eligible to apply for scholarships and in the case of a Double Degree, the amount awarded will be calculated on a pro-rata (prorated) basis.

All admissions decisions are made independently of an applicant’s financial situation. Awarded scholarships will be deducted from the last tuition payment. In addition, HEC Paris scholarships only cover tuition fees for courses taken on the HEC Paris campus.

The tuition fee to run a Bachelor’s program for foreigners and citizens is 10,000 USD/year, while the tuition fee to study a Master’s program for foreigners is 39,506 USD/year and 10,000 USD/year for citizens.

The HEC Paris International Office offers a two-day mandatory orientation program for incoming international students before the start of the academic program.

While attending HEC Paris, exchange students can participate in career workshops and recruitment events throughout the academic year.

Applicants must hold an undergraduate degree, Have at least 2 years full-time professional experience at the start of the program (not including internships), and Pass at least one of the admission tests: GMAT (competitive score: 630 or higher, suggested minimum: 570), GRE (score equivalent to that of the GMAT) or TAGE MAGE (competitive score: 300 or higher, suggested minimum score: 250), Submit proof of advanced intermediate proficiency in English.

The HEC Paris Academic Calendar is divided into two sessions, Fall semester between September – December and Spring semester between February – June.

Over the course of a semester, students can complete courses within the Core Curriculum, the Skills Curriculum, and the Elective Curriculum. The Academic year is divided into 4 terms, B1, B2, B3, and B4.

The fall semester is divided into two terms: B1 and B2, and the spring semester are divided into 2 terms B4 and B5.

Students can also participate in Skills Seminars (Behavioral Seminars) or weekend courses, which meet sporadically over a short period of time or for the duration of two consecutive weekends.

This schedule provides students with a range of options and flexibility in creating a plan of study for their semester abroad at HEC.

However, students must set up their schedules with their Babson curriculum in mind to effectively utilize HEC’s multi-term semester and weekend course options.

Students will have the opportunity to study a variety of disciplines like Fiscality and Law, Finance and Economics, Strategy and Management, Marketing, Accounting and Management Control, Operations Management, and Information Technology, Decision Science and Information System, management and Human Resources, and French Language and Culture.

Depending on the semester and year of attendance, the range of courses listed may vary. HEC offers students the opportunity to take courses that will fulfill Upper Management elective and concentration requirements.

Check with your concentration coordinator to ensure that the courses you intend to take abroad will be accepted toward your concentration. Students will take between 25 ECTS credits and 30 ECTS credits per semester, which typically translates into 8 – 10 courses per semester.

Students typically take courses in the Core curriculum, in the Elective curriculum, and in the Skills curriculum. The Add/Drop policy at HEC Paris allows students to switch courses between the first and second lectures.

Students must notify the Exchange Coordinator of an intended switch in courses before the 2nd lecture, as it is not permitted to drop a course after the beginning of the second lecture.

1. François Gérard Georges Nicolas Hollande

François Gérard Georges Nicolas Hollande was born 12 August 1954 in Rouen and raised in Neuilly-sur-Seine. He is a French politician who served as President of France and ex-official Co-Prince of Andorra from 2012 to 2017.

He was the First Secretary of the Socialist Party from 1997 to 2008, Mayor of Tulle from 2001 to 2008, and President of the Corrèze General Council from 2008 to 2012. Hollande also served twice in the National Assembly of France for the Corrèze’s department, first in the constituency from 1988 to 1993, and again from 1997 to 2012. François Hollande studied at HEC Paris, graduated in 1975.

7. Pierre Rosanvallon

Pierre Rosanvallon was born on 1 January 1948 in Blois. He is a French intellectual and historian, named professor at the Collège de France in 2001.

His works are dedicated to the history of democracy, French political history, the role of the state, and the question of social justice in contemporary societies.

He is the director of studies at the École des Hautes études en Sciences Sociales. Rosanvallon was one of the primary theoreticians of workers’ self-management in the French Democratic Confederation of Labour (CDFT) trade union in the 1970s.
