About Horatio Alger Career & Technical Scholarship

Horatio Alger’s scholarship is designed to support deserving young people to overcome their adversity and pursue their dreams through higher education. 1020 awards, each of $2,500, will be given to deserving candidates. To apply, applicants will be enrolled in the eligible program in fall 2023 and under 30.

How much is Horatio Alger’s Career & Technical Scholarship worth?

This National Career & Technical Scholarship is worth up to $2,500 each, and up to 1020 awards are given annually to students who want to pursue a career or technical certificate/degree.

Note, Funds may be used for tuition, fees, books, and supplies.  All scholarship funds are paid directly to the institution on behalf of the recipient.

Eligibility for Horatio Alger National Career & Technical Scholarship

This scholarship program is applicable for:

  • Have completed high school (or earned a GED)
  • Will be enrolled in an eligible program in Fall 2023
  • Exhibit a strong commitment to pursue and complete a career or technical program at an accredited non-profit post-secondary institution in the United States.
  • Demonstrated critical financial need (must be eligible to receive the Federal Pell Grant as determined by completion of the FAFSA)
  • Demonstrated perseverance in overcoming adversity
  • Be under the age of 30
  • Be a United States citizen

The Horatio Alger National Career & Technical Scholarship Program is created by The Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans. 

The scholarship is opened for USA students or residents.

It is important to note that this scholarship is for scholars pursuing an Associate level or technical degree/certificate (2 years or less program) at a not-for-profit school. So it cannot be used for master’s or bachelor’s degree programs.

Also, scholars must pursue the program they were awarded for being eligible to receive and benefit from the scholarship. If a scholar changes their program, this may result in forfeiting your funds. Scholars should contact the Association with questions.
