Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR) is offering scholarships for students from selected Asian countries. All selected candidates will receive the scholarship, medical coverage, book grants, conference travel funding, housing, and one round-trip economy airfare.
The aims and objectives of the Institute are to promote and conduct research on developmental issues from a broad inter- disciplinary perspective (economic, technological, social, political and ecological).
Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR) is an advanced research institute established and fully funded by the Reserve Bank of India for carrying out research on development issues from a multi-disciplinary point of view.
The candidate should have a very good command over the English language.
Course Level: Scholarships are available for pursuing master’s, M.Phil, post-doctoral programme.
Study Subject: IGIDR is running a capacity building program in inclusive development with a special focus on the labour market and industrial policy.

Number of Scholarships:
- Master’s program in Economics (five scholarships per academic year)
- MPhil. program in Development Studies (three scholarships per academic year)
- Visiting doctoral students (three scholarships per academic year)
- Post-doctoral program (two scholarships)
Scholarship can be taken in India
Master’s program in Economics: A two-year program that provides students with rigorous hands-on training in economics. Special emphasis will be placed on analytical and problem-solving skills and exposure to emerging policy issues at the national and international levels.
M.Phil. program in Development Studies: A two-year program designed for students seeking an advanced level of analytical and applied skills, but who may not be keen on pursuing a PhD. The program involves the successful completion of course work and a dissertation on a topic that broadly involves the labour market and industrial policy.
Visiting doctoral students: Each visiting doctoral scholarship is for a maximum period of twelve months. During this time, candidates will complete at least one major essay of their theses at IGIDR, which would be published as an IGIDR working paper following review.
Post-doctoral program: Post-doctoral scholarships are available for scholars from the target countries who have recently graduated PhD candidates, or for junior faculty who have submitted PhD dissertations or obtained PhD degrees with an outstanding academic record and with training in economics, particularly inclusive development. Grantees will be expected to produce at least two working papers per year; they will also be expected to give at least two seminars at IGIDR each year based on their work at IGIDR.
Nationality: Scholarships are available to students who are citizens of the following Asian countries: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam.
College Admission Requirement
M.Sc. (Economics): Minimum qualification for admission to M.Sc. programme include one of the following degrees or their equivalents: B.A./B.Sc. in Economics/B.Com./B.Stat./B.Sc. (Physics or Mathematics)/B.Tech./B.E. with at least 55% aggregate marks for Economics discipline and 60% aggregate marks for other disciplines. The applicant must have studied mathematics at the higher secondary or higher level.
M.Phil./Ph.D. (Development Studies): These are interdisciplinary programmes commencing on July 10, 2017. The duration of M.Phil programme is two years and that of Ph.D. programme is four years. Eligibility: Minimum qualification for admission to the M.Phil./Ph.D.programme include one of the following degrees or their equivalents: M.A./M.Sc in Economics/M.Stat./M.Sc. (Physics or Mathematics or Environmental Science or Operations Research)/M.B.A./M.Tech./M.E./B.Tech./B.E. with at least 55% aggregate marks for Economics discipline and 60% aggregate marks for other disciplines. The applicant must have studied mathematics at the higher secondary or higher level.
