Bright Health is impossible to cancel with. They’re the worst insurance company I’ve ever used. I had them for 2020 and canceled in November. During open enrollment for 2021, there was still 2020 in a drop-down that I didn’t notice, it was like towards the middle of December. Well, I accidentally reenrolled in 2020.
I tried correcting it myself a million times but it just kept reenrolling me. So I tried calling Bright health to make sure it cancels. Trying to get through during open enrollment is impossible.
I called every day and it would either leave me on hold for hours and then hang up on me or just beep and hang up. There is also no place on their website to cancel.
So I finally tricked the system into thinking I was trying to sign up for new insurance so that I could finally speak with a real agent. I spoke with Gia about what happened and she said not even to worry about it, the systems will communicate and she’ll notate my account thoroughly. Told me to call back in five days and the systems would have had time to “communicate” and update.
So I did on the 5th day which was 1/4/21 and then they advised me that I actually had to call the marketplace to cancel!!! They wouldn’t accept my cancelation over the phone?? So I called the marketplace and same thing, can’t get through. So I had to schedule a callback for the following day, January 5th.
Spoke with someone at the marketplace and told them what happen and she assured me she’d send over the cancelation for me to Brighthealth. That day I got an emailed invoice from Brighthealth for January insurance. I wrote back and said sorry no I canceled my insurance. The underwriters kept responding that they didn’t get a cancelation. I told them well I canceled verbally to you in December, I canceled through the marketplace like I was asked also, and now I’m telling you in writing.
They just kept telling me they don’t see a cancelation. I was like listen, this is MY insurance and I am telling you I’m canceling. I canceled. Im not going with you this year. They finally responded that they now see a cancelation for 2/1/21 I said no! I canceled for January, all of 2021 I’m not going with you this year.
Then they ignored me and that was the last time I’d heard from Brighthealth so I assumed all was resolved.
This past Friday…yes July 2021 I received a bill for a telehealth appointment from July 2020 saying I didn’t have coverage at that time and I owed a big bill. I called a million times and kept being told I had to speak to member services.
I kept leaving them messages. One morning I finally got a callback at 6 am the following morning but was asleep and missed the call. She left a message for me to call back…the main number. So I had to start over. Over and over leaving messages and requested member services to call me back. I finally got ahold of someone and he’s struggling to figure out my policy period.
I was like well I have every receipt I paid so I can provide them to you if that’s helpful. He says he has to just resubmit the claim…but also sees I owe for my policy period in January 2021!! I was like what?? I didn’t have insurance with you guys in 2021, that was a huge mess that was resolved. Im told I have to call the marketplace to try and get it resolved….. ugh!! Here we go again.
So I respond to that email from January 5, 2021, to the underwriters where I’m reminding them of our email thread that I had canceled with them and they aren’t responding. I keep following up and finally get a call from them. She was like oh yeah no problem, I’m going to send this in for them to correct and I’ll reach back out to you. I was like yay, ok thanks for the help. Within minutes I get a follow-up email from her on the underwriter’s email thread that I owe them money for January.
It’s almost like she completely forgot what we discussed over the phone minutes before. I was like…what?? I was under the impression this was resolved over the phone!! Why did I never receive another bill from bright health? Was under the impression that this was resolved on January 5th 2021!!!
I feel violated! I repeatedly asked Brighthealth to STOP! Begged and pleaded for them to STOP and they just kept going. They should have to register on some offender list!
Update: 7/9/21 I emailed the company per the customer service rep’s request below at 10:37 am forwarding the entire email thread with the underwriters starting 1/5/21. Pending response.
Update: 7/11/21 at 7 pm I received a response email from the social media department that they forwarded my email to the escalation department. Pending response.
Update: 7/13/21 at 11:48am. I received an email response from the special services department. Fred Kelley, you made my day!!! He is the very first person that took the time to actually listen to my issue! He is correcting the mistake and I am so so so happy about that! I will update my review once completed.
