Pet health care can be very expensive. This is why it’s important to get a pet health insurance policy to aid the medical bills when the need arises. There are lots of these insurance policies out there, but we’d focus our lenses on Figo pet insurance.

According to the ASPCA’s National Rehoming Survey, pet problems are the most common reason that owners rehome their pet, accounting for 47% of rehomed dogs and 42% of rehomed cats.

They defined pet problems were as problematic behaviors, aggressive behaviors, pets growing larger than expected.

While there are other issues, as shown above, there’s also the prevalent issue of health challenges.

This is where insurance comes in handy, in this case, Figo Pet Insurance. With Insurance, you may not necessarily spend so much to care for your pet’s health.

Therefore, we’d be looking holistically at Figo Pet Insurance reviews. These reviews will help you, our reader, to make the best decision while choosing an insurance company to buy Pet health insurance from.

Before we go ahead, kindly take a look at our table of content for what to expect.

What Is Insurance?

According to, Insurance is a contract, represented by a policy, in which an individual or entity receives financial protection or reimbursement against losses from an insurance company.

The company pools clients’ risks to make payments more affordable for the insured.

Insurance policies are used to hedge against the risk of financial losses, both big and small, that may result from damage to the insured or her property, or from liability for damage or injury caused to a third party.

About Figo Pet Insurance

Figo was created in 2013 in Chicago, Illinois, and its cat and dog insurance plans are underwritten by Independence American Insurance Company, Markel American Insurance Company, and Markel Insurance Company.

Apart from pet insurance, Figo also has a Pet Cloud app that allows you to discover other pet owners in your area.

You can also share photos, schedule pet play dates, and explore pet parks, as well as hire dog walkers. The app also has features that help you receive pet health reminders and upload medical information.

The North American Pet Insurance Association (NAPHIA) is a member of Figo, and its insurance permits you to visit a veterinarian anywhere in the United States, Canada, or Puerto Rico.

What Is Figo Pet Insurance?

Figo pet insurance protects cats and dogs against accidents and illnesses, helping to cover the costs of emergency visits, hospitalizations, treatments, and veterinary exams.

This pet insurance is similar to the health insurance you get for yourself in that you must satisfy an annual deductible before coverage begins. The policy spells out what is covered (and what isn’t), and you pay a monthly fee.

Figo pet insurance, on the other hand, is unique in that instead of paying a co-pay at the time of service, you pay the veterinarian charge first and then make a claim.

Pre-existing conditions are not covered by most pet insurance policies, including Figo’s. If your pet hasn’t displayed any symptoms in the previous 12 months, Figo will make an exemption for treatable diseases.

There are also waiting periods for certain conditions before your coverage kicks in. This implies that if you purchase Figo pet insurance for your dog and it is diagnosed with a knee problem before the conclusion of the waiting period, the veterinarian exam and treatment will not be covered by your plan.

Read sample policies carefully to understand what the pet insurance will and will not cover, how and where you can use the policy, and how the claims and reimbursement process works, just like you would with any other sort of insurance.

Figo pet insurance can help with the cost of covered chronic and inherited disorders, cancer treatment, diagnosis, surgeries, emergency visits, medicines, imaging, prostheses, and orthopedics, among other things.

What Figo Pet Insurance Does…

Figo Pet Insurance has an Essential that includes $5000 in annual benefits, and a Preferred Plan that offers over $10,000 in annual benefits. They also have an ultimate plan that offers unlimited annual benefits.

These plans cover accidents and illnesses for cats and dogs, with their pricing dependent on the plan you choose.

Figo also offers a non-compulsory wellness add-on or its plans that cover things like blood work, vaccinations, and heartworm protection.

However, Figo doesn’t cover pre-existing conditions. Therefore, your pet may not be eligible for coverage if it has been suffering from the illness for a while.

Finally, Figo charges you less money to cover for dogs, unlike most insurance plans that would charge more for dogs.

How Much Does Figo Cost?

This all depends on the price benefit of your choosing. If you select the $5000 Essential plan or any other plan, your deductible will be based on the plan.

For the monthly Premium, you will pay $22.15 to cover your dog and pay $23.40 for your cat. This makes Figo Pet insurance the only company that charges more for cats, and less for dogs.

Nonetheless, these prices are for pets not over a year old and weigh between 50 to 90 pounds.

This said, your monthly premium according to Figo is based on how old your pet is. It is also affected by your location as vet care might differ from state to state.

Figo will charge an administrative fee depending on the state you are in. They will also refund your money within 30 days if you ask for it. Click here to read more bout this.

How Do I Buy Pet Insurance From Figo?

To buy pet insurance from Figo, you first click on the “get a quote” button at the top of the page on the company’s website and fill in the required information: your pet’s name, cat or dog, age, sex, breed, ZIP code, and your email address.

Next, Figo asks you to select your annual benefit: $5,000, $10,000, or unlimited. You’ll also choose your reimbursement level and deductible from a number of options so Figo can customize a quote.

You can choose three optional coverages: a wellness option that covers things like regular blood work and vaccinations. An option for veterinarian exams related to covered illness and conditions (this is not for wellness vet visits).

Or an extra care pack for up to $250 for cremation and burial, lost pet advertising/reward, boarding fees, pet theft up to $150, and third-party property damage up to $10,000 per policy.

The entire purchase process is completed online. You’ll receive Figo policy statements in the Figo Pet Cloud app. Or, you can call customer service and request hard copies.

#1. No network limitations: With Figo, you can visit any licensed veterinarian in the United States, Canada, or Puerto Rico. This includes general veterinary practices, specialists, and pet emergency rooms.

#2. 24/7 virtual vet visits: Through Figo’s Pet Cloud app, you’ll get 24-hour access to a live veterinarian in case of emergency. This service is included with all policies at no additional charge.

#3. Great customer service options: The options to contact Figo customer care are just about limitless. Get in touch via phone, email, text, chat, or Twitter.

#4. No maximum enrollment age: There’s no age limit to enroll your pet for coverage. Senior pets may be subject to certain restrictions, like limited mortality benefits or proof of recent wellness testing, but this is standard.

#5. 30-day money-back guarantee: If you try Figo and decide it isn’t for you, the company will refund your money (except administrative fees) within 30 days as long as you haven’t made a claim.

#1. Enrollment exam recommended: While Figo doesn’t require a veterinary exam to begin coverage, it may be recommended.

If pet owners can’t show proof of a checkup in the 12 months prior to coverage beginning, the company may use the first subsequent exam to establish pre-existing conditions.

This could be bad news if your first trip to the vet is for a new issue. Especially if it’s denied.

#2. Only Covers Dogs and Cats: Families with additional critters like birds and hamsters won’t find coverage for all their pets with Figo.

#3. Exam fees not included: Figo’s base plan doesn’t cover exam fees, which are almost always charged during visits for accidents and illnesses. You can purchase this coverage for a few extra dollars per month.

Like most businesses, Figo pet insurance reviews have both good and bad ones. These reviews were written by customers that were either satisfied not satisfied with their services.

So I’ll just get straight to the point. When I walked in the store the other day and I was looking for a specific brand of dog food and I walked past two employees and they just looked at me and walked off. Um really? And so I walked to the fish part of the store to find someone else and it was one person there, his name was Kirk. (He worked at the other pet supplies plus store I used to shop at!) He was extremely helpful and informative. I even bought a few fish because we were talking about those too and he told me a few great new facts about them! So because of him, I’ll give the store four stars! Also, the store is clean and nice, they have a lot of variety.Useful 1FunnyCool 1

We had Figo pet insurance for our older dog for the last three years of her life. When she needed to be hospitalized and have extensive testing and treatment it was a big relief knowing that a portion of the final cost (over $11,000) would be covered. Filing the claim was easy and it was processed and paid within a week and a half. They paid exactly what the policy said they should.

I’m only dropping one star because the annual price increases meant I had to adjust the coverage options each year. I also wish that the surcharge to cover exam fees wasn’t quite as high.

My dog loves sugar-free gum. Once was a mistake (we thought he ate it, but didn’t); the second was a nightmare. Rufus ate a new 40 piece pack of sugar-free gum. 3 pieces can cause liver failure and death. Within 5 minutes of him eating the gum, we were on the road and at the emergency vet (Sunday afternoon, of course) within 30 minutes. Rufus’ glucose was already falling. Stomach pumped, glucose support, liver-strengthening drugs, and 48 hours of supervision and he was out. The cost of observation when we only thought he ate gum: $1,900. When your dog actually eats sugar-free gum: $3,500.  Figo was with us both times.

A final note, things happen fast and without warning. One minute, we are having a fine weekend, and the next, we are racing time to save Rufus’ life at the veterinarian. Knowing we had pet insurance made worrying about the financial issues of any decision-making suddenly seem secondary. We have used Figo since Rufus’ Gotcha Day and it has always proven to be a good value. Just this one vet trip reimbursed a lifetime of premiums. We believe in pet insurance and encourage you to do so.

Love your dogs. And love your people. Every second counts.

With the reviews above and more of those, you’d find on Yelp, one can easily draw a conclusion about Figo. However, we believe every experience is peculiar to the person writing the review.

This said I can’t conclusively say that Figo Pet Insurance is a scam or legit from the reviews. However, I’d advise that you properly read through their policies to know what they cover or not.

Good Luck.
