The Current Population Poll (CPS) is a monthly survey conducted by the United States Census Bureau on behalf of the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) to provide the primary estimate of the nation’s unemployment rate.
Since 1940, it has conducted this survey every month. About 60,000 eligible households are included in the sample, which translates to about 110,000 persons per month.
To improve the dependability of the estimates, it rotates one-fourth of the families in the sample each month, ensuring that it represented no household for over four months.

- Enter your Social Security number
- Create a four-digit pin on the next page to access all unemployment benefits online and over the phone
- Save the phone number in a safe place
- Enter your mother’s maiden name
- On the unemployment services page, select ‘File a Claim’ and complete the captcha
- Complete the claim form thoroughly.

What are the Things I Need to File for Unemployment?
You may not need all of these documents to file a claim however, any missing information can delay your payment.
- Social Security number
- Driver license or vehicle ID card number
- Complete mailing address and zip code
- Phone number
- Alien registration number
- Names and addresses of all your employers for the last 18 months
- Employer registration number
- Copies of SF8 and SF50 forms if you were a federal employee
- Your most recent separation form (DD-214) for military service
