Kean University

Kean University is a public research university located in Union, New Jersey, and is one of the state’s largest institutions of higher education. The university was established in 1855 as the Newark Normal School. Over the years, it has evolved into a comprehensive institution offering various undergraduate and graduate programs.

One of the unique features of Kean University is its commitment to providing a high-quality education to students from diverse backgrounds. The university offers a variety of programs and services that support student success, including a comprehensive academic advising program, tutoring services, and a range of co-curricular activities.

Kean University Tuition: Scholarship and Cost of Living in 2023

The Office is dedicated to providing financial access to world-class education and upholding ethical scholarship dissemination and assessment standards.

The Office of Scholarship Services functions within the scope of the University in its missions to strategically promote and grow the pool of available scholarships and further the advancement of scholarship recipients as they move beyond Kean University.

Kean University offers several scholarships to help qualified undergraduate and graduate students of every race/ethnicity, gender, and creed meet the financial requirements of attending college.

All students are also strongly encouraged to complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), improving their ability to receive needed funding through grants and other financial aid. The FAFSA application can be completed electronically by visiting www.fafsa.ed.gov.

The Kean University Foundation Scholarship Application is online from October 1 through March 1 (with a priority deadline of February 1 for incoming freshmen). Awards for the current academic year have already been made.

Mandatory Fees Descriptions

Athletic and Recreation Fee:

The athletic and recreation fee provides funding to enhance the athletic experience of our student-athletes and the entire Kean University community.

This fee supports all areas of the 13 NCAA Division III intercollegiate teams offered by the University and recreational and intramural programming. In addition, the fee covers the expenses and personnel costs associated with operating and maintaining three fitness centers and three gymnasiums on campus.

Capital Improvement Fee:

The capital service improvement fee is used for debt and to fund renovation and construction projects costing $500,000 or more not funded by bonds.

Student Government Fee:

The Office of Student Government offers students opportunities for professional development experience.

The Office provides diverse campus-wide programming that enhances the intellectual, cultural, and personal growth of the students and the community. The Office provides various service, cultural, professional, governmental, and performance groups to enrich the learning environment and prepare our students for the professional world.

The Office of Student Government enhances the learning environment by developing leaders who take individual and collective responsibilities in serving the concerns and interests of the students. Through both boards, we offer opportunities for a voice and involvement in University decisions that affect the student population.

A part-time student taking off-campus courses will be charged an off-campus fee of $20.00 per credit in addition to the regular University per-credit fees. The Student Government Fee will not be charged for these credits.
