• Per diem when attending didactic sessions and meetings
• Housing allowance of up to $750 per month -support request for an NIH loan repayment of up to $35,000 for one year (eligible applicants are limited to postdocs)
• Reimbursement for other selected fellowship-specific activities in Africa (i.e., travel to rural sites, visa, etc.).

#2. UCT Genetics Postdoctoral Research Fellowship for Sub-Saharan Africans in Africa

Applicants must have the following:

• A Ph.D. degree (achieved within 2 years of this application) in an area of Human Genetics, Molecular/Cell Biology, or Bioinformatics.
• Proficient in standard molecular biology techniques (e.g., cloning, site-directed mutagenesis, fragment analysis, DNA and RNA isolation, quantitative Real-Time PCR, RNA interference), immunoblotting), common cell biology techniques (e.g. immunofluorescence). Experience in sequence library preparation (e.g., using the Illumina NextSeq™ 500)
• Experience in basic statics like R, SPSS, and STATA
• Previous experience in LIMS and quality control

• Evidence of a publication record
• Bioinformatics skill set needed to process raw FASTQ files
• Scholarship Award: The fellowship is valued at R300 000 per annum. The fellowship may be renewed for a second year, depending on satisfactory progress and mutual agreement.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

1. a) Botswana citizen who is NOT gainfully employed.
2. b) Applicants must be able to complete the program of study before turning thirty-five (35) years of age.
3. c) The cut-off point for sponsorship is 36 points.
4. d) Candidates who have upgraded their results must also have a minimum of 36 points.
