There are many local scholarships available in Tanzania both for Tanzania and other African Country students. Some of the scholarships serves as financial aids which covers tuition fees, accommodation and other studying expenses.

Also, some are for bachelor’s degree students, while some are for students who wants to take graduate programs such as masters and PhD.

#1. Mo Dewji Foundation Scholarships For Tanzanian Undergraduate Students 2021

Scholarship Worth:

  • The scholarship will be applied to the following expenses only:
    • Tuition Fees = TZS 1,000,000 – TZS 1,500,000 depending on the academic program of the scholarship recipient.
    • Direct University Fees = ID fees, registration fees, examination fees, medical capitation fees, student union fees, books, and stationery allowance. A maximum amount of TZS 80,000 per scholarship recipient.
    • Housing and meals allowance = TZS 1,500,000 per annum per scholarship recipient.
  • The scholarship award is a non-cash award to the recipient’s UDSM account as outlined on the scholarship application.

Eligibility 

  • The recipient must be a citizen of the United Republic of Tanzania (at the time they apply for the scholarship).
  • The recipient must have attended a secondary school in Tanzania to be eligible for this scholarship. Home-schooled students are not eligible.
  • The recipient must be fluent in both English and Kiswahili at the time of their application.
  • The recipient must be in their first year of undergraduate education.
  • He/she must declare their intent with a major / degree program of his/her choice.
  • The recipient should not have studied for, or hold a degree or degree-equivalent qualification from a tertiary institution within Tanzania or outside the country.

#2. Sokoine University of Agriculture Indigenous Ph.D. Scholarships, Tanzania, 2021

This is one of the local scholarships available for Tanzania students. Eligible Tanzania students are encouraged to apply.

Scholarship Worth:

The successful candidate will receive a modest stipend throughout the valid Ph.D. period and it covers all fieldwork costs, travel, and tuition fees.

Eligibility

  • Hold a master’s degree in his field.
  • Be highly willing to develop a scientific career.
  • Possess and show good scientific writing skills.
  • I have a strong methodological and conceptual background in relevant scientific disciplines.
  • Be a constructive team worker.
  • Applicants should not be more than 35 years for men and 40 years for women at the time of application.

#3. Green Resources For Livelihood Improvement Ph.D. Scholarships In Tanzania 2021

Scholarship Worth:

The scholarship will cover tuition fees, a monthly stipend and research costs based on successful deliverables.

Eligibility: 

  • Candidates must have a Master’s degree in the relevant field.
  • Knowledge in Entrepreneurship, qualitative and quantitative data collection and advanced econometrics will be an advantage.

#4. KCMUCo MSc Scholarships For Tanzanian Students At Any East African University, 2021

Scholarship Worth:

Tuition fees and research funds according to the fees structure and a monthly stipend, covering the cost of living including accommodation. KCMUCo rates will apply for the monthly stipend.

Eligibility:

  • All applicants must have MD/ MBChB or equivalent as a first degree.
  • Have a minimum pass of B+ grade in the subject aspire to pursue.
  • Had an overall minimum pass of B or GPA of 3.5.
  • The last university degree must be less than six years ago at the time of application.
  • Applicants must have an admission offer from any university in East Africa or an official letter showing communication with the college that assures admission.

#5. Haven Of Peace Academy Merit Scholarships For Tanzanian Students, 2021

Scholarship Worth: The school is offering up to three awards of up to 100% of the tuition fees for a maximum of two years.

Eligibility:

Applicants must be:

  • Tanzanian Citizens
  • Must be at least 16 years of age and no older than 19 years of age by August 2021

#6. Bank Of Tanzania Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Memorial Scholarship Fund 2021 For Tanzanians

Scholarship Worth: 

Successful applicants are granted a full scholarship which covers all university direct cost (tuition fees etc.) and student direct costs (meal, accommodation, book, and stationery allowance, field practical training, special faculty requirement, etc.) as specified in the respective institutions ‘costs structure including a laptop computer.

Eligibility:

  • The applicant must be a Tanzanian citizen.
  • Applicant must have obtained First Class or an Upper Second Class(honors) in the Bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA of 4.0 from an accredited university within the United Republic of Tanzania.
  • He/she must not be over thirty-five years of age and should have completed a Bachelor’s degree in studies related to Mathematics, Science, Economics, Information Technology, Accounting or Finance.
  • Applicant must have applied/be admitted to a full-time Master’s degree program in an accredited university within the United Republic of Tanzania.

#7. Research Fellowships For African Students In Tanzania, 2021

Scholarship Worth: These fellowships will cover stipend, university registration fees, approved research expenses, travel to partner institutions

Eligibility:

  • Applications should be submitted to either SUA or MUHAS with copies to the SACIDS Secretariat. A candidate can apply to one or both universities, although ultimately will register at only one university.
  •  Candidate should ensure they meet the admission requirements of SUA or MUHAS as described on the university website;
  • For SUA Admission to MPhil, Ph.D. and Postdoc programs see the Regulations and Guidelines for Higher Degrees.

#8. University Of Dar Es Salaam Masters Scholarship For Tanzanian Students 2021

This is one of the local scholarships available for Tanzania students in 2021. Eligible Tanzania students are encouraged to apply.

Scholarship Worth: Scholarship will cover tuition and board

Eligibility:

Applicant should have the following criteria
1. Graduated Bachelor Degree in 2021
2. Has a grand GPA of at least 3.8 (Honor)
3. Has applied for the Master of Finance and Accounting in Oil and Gas Programme. The window for receiving late applications is still open.
4. Meeting the requirements to be admitted in the Master of Finance and Accounting in Oil and Gas, which include a degree in the area of commerce and management (or business administration), economics and actuarial science from recognized higher learning institutions/universities.
5. Should be a Tanzanian
6. It should not be 30 years old in October 2021.

#9. STIAS Iso Lomso Fellowship Programme For Research In Africa, 2021

Scholarship Worth: 

  • an economy return flight;
  • comfortable accommodation within walking distance of the institute;
  • individual offices equipped with a PC, telephone and printer;
  • a monthly stipend for daily living costs;
  • access to the Stellenbosch University library (including electronic resources) and a fast internet connection;
  • participation in the regular STIAS fellows program, including daily lunch, weekly fellows’ seminar, STIAS public lectures, and social events;
  • a child care subsidy for women fellows accompanied by young children while in residence.

  • be a national of Tanzania;
  • have an affiliation at research or higher education institution in an African country, and continue to do so for the foreseeable future;
  • have obtained a doctoral degree from any recognized higher education institution (worldwide) after the 1st of January 2022;
  • be in a position to commence the first period of residency at STIAS during 2017.

  • Applicants from non-Anglophone African countries may conduct their research in the language of preference; however, the application documents must be completed in English.

#10. World Bank #Blog4Dev Contest 2021 For Boosting Job Opportunities For Youth In East Africa

This is one of the local scholarships available for Tanzania students in 2021. Eligible Tanzania students are encouraged to apply.

Scholarship Worth: 

  • Two winners will win an all-expense-paid trip to Washington DC for one week.
  • Two more winners will enjoy 2-weeks attachments to the World Bank office in Tanzania/Malawi/Burundi.
  • All top four entries for Tanzania/Malawi, Somalia (including Somaliland) & Burundi will be published on the WBG’s Nasikiliza blog page, and also promoted on World Bank social media channels. These will be credited to the respective bloggers.

Eligibility:

To be eligible for the #Blog4Dev contest in Tanzania, you must:

  • Be a Tanzanian citizen
  • Currently living in Tanzania
  • Be between the ages of 18 and 28

Eligibility: To qualify for this scholarship,

  • A postgraduate qualification (minimum NQF Level 8) in any of the disciplines that we recruit from, obtained before January 2021.
  • There is an exception for Tanzania whereby a three-year degree will be accepted.
  • Less than 24 months’ permanent work experience (this excludes temporary work during full-time studies).

#12. African Great Lakes Reporting Fellowship By International Women’s Media Foundation (IWMF) In Tanzania, 2021

Scholarship Worth: 

The IWMF arranges travel and in-country logistics for all Fellows within the scope of the Fellowship base location and trip dates.

The IWMF also covers Fellowship-related costs within the framework of the reporting trip including travel, lodging, meals, and fixers/interpreters, unless a selected journalist’s news organization wishes to assume these costs. Visa costs will also be covered.

Eligibility:

  • Affiliated or freelance women journalists with three (3) or more years of professional experience working full time in news media. Please note that internships do not count toward professional experience.
  • Women journalists of all nationalities are welcome to apply.
  • Non-native English speakers must be proficient in English in order to fully participate in and benefit from the program.
  • Applicants must be able to show proof of interest from an editor or have a proven track record of publication in prominent media outlets (a letter from an editor is strongly preferred).
  • Fellows living outside the U.S. are responsible for procuring all necessary visas, for which they will be reimbursed at the conclusion of the fellowship.

#13. UCT Genetics Postdoctoral Research Fellowship for Sub-Saharan Africans in Africa, 2021

The fellowship is valued at R300 000 per annum. The fellowship may be renewed for a second year depending on satisfactory progress and mutual agreement.

Eligibility:

Applicants must have:

  • A Ph.D. degree (achieved within 2 years of this application) in an area of Human Genetics, Molecular/Cell Biology or Bioinformatics.
  • Proficient in standard molecular biology techniques (e.g. cloning, site-directed mutagenesis, and fragment analysis, DNA and RNA isolation, quantitative Real-Time PCR, RNA interference), and immunoblotting), common cell biology techniques (e.g. immunofluorescence). Experience in sequence library preparation (e.g., using the Illumina NextSeq™ 500)

Experience in basic statics like R, SPSS, and STATA

  • Previous experience in LIMS and quality control

#14. Africa Prize For Engineering Innovation In Sub-Saharan Africa 2021

This is one of the local scholarships available for Tanzania students in 2021. Eligible Tanzania students are encouraged to apply.

Scholarship Worth: Finalists will be invited to present at an event held in Africa and a winner will be selected to receive £25,000 along with runners-up, who will each be awarded £10,000

Eligibility:

  • Applicants must be individuals or groups of no more than three people.
  • Individual applicants must be citizens of a country within sub-Saharan Africa and currently, reside there. For teams of two or three, the lead applicant must be a citizen of a country within sub-Saharan Africa and currently reside there.
  • Applicants must have an engineering innovation and provide a letter of support from the University of the research institution.
  • Industrial researchers and establishments are not eligible.
  • The applicant’s innovation can be any new product, technology or service, based on research in engineering defined in its broadest sense to encompass a wide range of fields, including agricultural technology, biotechnology, chemical engineering, civil engineering, computer science, design engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, ICT, materials science, mechanical engineering, and medical engineering.
