The MEXT Japanese Government Scholarship 2023 supports international students, including India students who study in higher education institutions. And international students are selected if the Japanese Embassy/Consulate General, University, or Authority recommends them.
However, seven types of scholarships are available and sponsored by the Japanese government. This scholarship includes research students, teacher-training students, and undergraduate university students.
Not only but also Japanese studies students, college of technology students, and special training students.
Those who wish to apply for a scholarship must meet one of the criteria listed below:
- Recommended by a Japanese embassy or consulate-general (Embassy Recommendation).
- Recommended by the Japanese university that will accept you (University Recommendation).
- If he is a student financed with private funds and is already studying in Japan. Then he will be selected by the Japanese university where he is currently registered. (Domestic Selection).

About MEXT Scholarships
MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Government of Japan) offers scholarships to international students. Especially for those who wish to study in Japan at a specialized training college, a college of technology, and a university (undergraduate level).
Also, the scholarships offered are for three, four, and five years, respectively, beginning in April 2023.

This MEXT Scholarships in India or for Indian Students has Planned several new scholarship recipients as 4,042 people and under 35 (born on or after April 2, 1985).
Also, the preliminary Japanese-language training is for 6 months (54 universities, such as Hokkaido University). In addition, the duration of the MEXT Scholarships for Indian students is a maximum of 2 years, including Japanese-language training.
In particular, those with sufficient Japanese proficiency are not required to undergo preliminary Japanese-language training. The exams required for Embassy recommendation is Japanese and English language(only for applicants).

Scholarship Worth
The Scholarship worth for MEXT Scholarships for Indian Students is 144,000 Yen per month (Approx. Rs. 89,440/month for the year 2023). Also, the Tuition fee for national universities and the Institute of National College of Technology is waived. (Xanax)

Eligibility
Applicants must be Indian Citizens

- For Research Student / Master’s Degree
Bachelor’s Degree in the relevant field with minimum 65% marks. The candidates should obtain their mark sheet and degree on or before 31st March for April batch and 30th September for October 2023 batch.
- For Ph.D. Degree
Master’s degree in the relevant field with minimum 65% marks. Candidate having practical research/teaching/work experience after obtaining the prescribed qualification on or before 31st March for April batch and 30th September for October 2023 batch.
- For Research Student/Master’s degree in the Japanese Language
a) Students who have completed a Bachelor’s degree / Master’s degree course in the Japanese Language from a recognized university.
OR
b) Students who have completed a Bachelor’s degree course in any subject from a recognized university and obtained N2 Certificate of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) conducted by the Japan Foundation.
- For a Ph.D. degree in Japanese Language
Students who have completed a Master’s degree course in the Japanese Language from a recognized university.

Also, the preliminary Japanese-language training is for 6 months (54 universities such as Hokkaido University). In addition, the duration of the MEXT Scholarship for Indian Students 2023 is a Maximum of 1 year 6 months, including Japanese-language training.
Especially those with sufficient Japanese proficiency are not required to undergo preliminary Japanese- language training. The Examinations required for Embassy recommendation is Japanese and English (Both for reference purposes).

Applicants who worked as teachers in primary or secondary schools for at least 5 years.

Undergraduate Student
This MEXT Scholarship for Indian Students has planned several new scholarship recipients as 460 people who must be at least 17 and under 25 (born between 02.04.1995 and 01.04.2003).
Also, the preliminary Japanese-language training is for 1 year (Tokyo University of Foreign Studies and Osaka University). In addition, the duration of the MEXT Scholarship for Indian Students is 5 years, including Japanese-language training (7 years for medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, and veterinary science).
The Examinations required for Embassy recommendation are Japanese, English, mathematics, and science. In fact, only science faculty examinees are required to choose two out of the following three subjects: chemistry, physics, or biology)

Selection Procedure Under MEXT Scholarship India
The concerned authorities will check their academic as well as extra academic excellence. The best student will be shortlisted. The shortlisted candidate’s list will be displayed on the website by July 2023.
