About the Mozilla Fellowship
The Mozilla Fellows are working on the front lines of health on the Internet, when the Internet is entwined to everything from elections to freedom of expression to justice and personal security.
Fellows ensure the Internet remains a strength of well-being – empowerment, equality, access – and fights online ills, such as abuse, exclusion, and closed systems.
Mozilla is particularly interested in people whose expertise aligns with our 2023 impact goal: “better machine decision making” or ensuring that artificial intelligence in our lives is designed with responsibility and ethics top of minds.
For example, Fellows could research how misinformation spreads on Facebook. You can also create a tool that identifies blind spots in cancer detection algorithms. You can also advocate for a “digital bill of rights” that protects individuals against invasive facial recognition technology.
During a 10-month tenure, Mozilla Fellows can organize campaigns, create products and influence its policies. Along the way, Fellows receive competitive funding and benefits; mentorship and training; access to the Mozilla network and megaphone; and more.
Mozilla Fellows belong to a variety of disciplines and geographic regions: scientists in the UK, human rights researchers in Germany, technology policy experts in Nigeria, and advocates for open technology in New Zealand.

Open Web Activists: Fellows working in public interest technology and dealing with privacy, security, and online inclusion issues. These open Web activists will integrate with leading human rights and civil society organizations worldwide, bringing their technical expertise. Scientists and researchers: Fellows who integrate open-source practices and principles into scientific research. “Science” is defined broadly; Fellows may work in the natural sciences, formal and applied sciences, or humanities, social sciences and library, and information sciences. Fellows are based in the research institution with which they are currently affiliated.
Technology Policy Professionals: Fellows who examine the interplay of technology and public policy, and craft legal, academic, and governmental solutions. These tech policy professionals are independent researchers and are not necessarily matched with a host organization or an institution.
