The Department of Ancient Civilizations at the University of Basel, Switzerland is inviting applications for a one-year scholarship.
The University of Basel is located in Basel, Switzerland. Founded on 4 April 1460, it is Switzerland’s oldest university and is counted among the leading institutions of the country.
Course Level: Scholarship is available for pursuing PhD programme.
Study Subject: Scholarship is awarded to the Department of Ancient Civilizations.
Scholarship Award: A CHF 30’000 per year; two tranches with evaluation
Scholarship can be taken in Switzerland
Eligibility: The scholarship is addressed to students who hold a 1st class MA degree Either in Egyptology, Classical Archeology, Ancient Near Eastern Studies, Ancient History, Greek Philology, Latin Philology, Comparative and Historical Linguistics or European Archeology. It is expected that the PhD student will be a part of the PhD Program of the Department of Ancient Civilizations at the University of Basel. Most welcomed are PhD projects, which are related to the research fields of the Department of Ancient Civilizations at the University of Basel. The PhD student has to choose from the date of the admission to the doctoral program a first or second supervisor from the Department of Ancient Civilizations at the University of Basel.
Nationality: Citizens of Switzerland are eligible to apply.

Entrance Requirement: Applicants must have master’s degree.

- Letter of motivation
- MA Diploma
- 1-2 sample of text (max. 20 pages each, including at least 1 academic qualification text, like BA- or MA thesis)
- Sketch for the dissertation project (max 3 pages)
- Letter of reference
