1. NIHSS/CODESRIA Call for Applications – PhD/Doctoral Scholarships

The National Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences (NIHSS), in association with the Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA), has made scholarships available to support researchers from African countries who are entering their first year of PhD/Doctoral Study.

The value of the award is R120,000 in the first year, which is renewable up to three years subject to excellent performances.

2. Advanced Research Fellowship Programme – CODESRIA

The CODESRIA Advanced Research Fellowship Programme is available for African scholars from all disciplines of the Social Sciences and Humanities who are affiliated with an African research institution.

The award is valued at US$10,000 to each of the ten successful applicants for a period of one year.

This scholarship is offered at Brandeis University, the USA for a Graduate Program in Sustainable International Development will be awarded to an early– to mid-career development planner committed to poverty alleviation and community development within the region of Southern Africa.

4. Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation Grants

This scholarship is offered to researchers from all over the world who are interested in carrying out research that can increase understanding and amelioration of urgent problems of violence and aggression in the modern world such as those in relation to social change, intergroup conflict, war, terrorism, crime, and family relationships, among other subjects

5. The University of Edinburgh Southern African Scholarships

These scholarships are for students of Southern African Countries to pursue postgraduate study in any subject offered by the University of Edinburgh.

One of the scholarships will be available for a one-year Master’s degree program and the other scholarship for a three-year Ph.D. degree program.

The award will cover the overseas rate of tuition fees and University accommodation for the duration of the postgraduate degree program.

5. University of Nairobi-IDRC Scholarships on ICT for Development

These awards are solely available to citizens of sub-Saharan African countries who have been admitted to pursue a Master’s or Doctoral course in any African university. The participating countries include Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Burundi, Comoros, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Rwanda, Seychelles, Somalia, Tanzania, and Uganda.

An applicant for the Master’s scholarships will need to provide evidence that he/she has been admitted to a relevant Master’s program in a university in one of the eligible countries. Applicants for the doctoral research grants must be registered Ph.D. students in one of the universities in an eligible country.

Candidates for the doctoral research awards will be entitled to a maximum of CA$15,000. This amount includes all the research costs. Funds will also be provided for local communication costs and travel to workshops or conferences.

For the Master’s scholarships, the project will pay for all the fees for the two years (depending on the fees in a particular university). In addition, a candidate will be entitled to a research allowance, a monthly stipend, a book allowance, and other benefits

6. TRECCAfrica Scholarships for Africans

These scholarships are available to students and staff from various African countries to pursue postgraduate study at one of the TRECCAfrica consortium partners. Among the available programs are seven full-degree Master’s positions, 15 Master’s exchanges, and seven Ph.D. exchange positions available.

The award will cover travel costs, tuition fees, and a living allowance of €600 per month for Master’s students and €900 per month for Ph.D. students for a period of up to 10 months.

7. Generation Scholarships in Europe Middle East and Africa

The Generation is for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa and is available for women all around the world who aim to excel in computing and technology by pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. program in computer science or a related IT discipline.

This scholarship is offered by the National University of Singapore to outstanding international students who are interested in pursuing a doctoral research program in Singapore.

This scholarship is offered to five students from all around the world who intend to undertake a collaborative Ph.D. in projects across a broad range of focus areas including energy and engineering, health and medicine, and business.

14. IFUW International Fellowships and Grants

This program is designed to provide a limited number of international fellowships and grants to women graduates for postgraduate research, study, and training. The fellowships are offered for the second and subsequent years of a doctoral program and for post-doctoral studies.
