Faculty of Science Postgraduate Elite Scholarships (Africa)

Applications have been invited for the Faculty of Science Postgraduate Elite Scholarship for Africans. This is a PhD scholarship for Zimbabweans which promises a lot of huge benefits.

Host/Eligible Nationality:

The scholarship is hosted in the United Kingdom and is available to African scholars. Students from Zimbabwe are eligible to apply.

Field of study:

This scholarship is open to students in the field of engineering, sciences, Business, Humanities, and social sciences.

Scholarship worth:

The scholarship is a partially funded program. The scheme offers up to £4000/£3500 and £3000/£2500 for the participants. Eligible students must have excellent grades from University and strong English test results.

Please note that there will be two branches of awards. Applicants who confirm their place before 1 April 2023 will be offered the higher scholarship amounts.  After 1 April the lesser amount will be offered.


Singapore International Graduate Award (SINGA)

The Singapore International Graduate Award (SINGA) is a collaboration between the Agency for Science, Technology & Research (A*STAR), the National University of Singapore (NUS) and the Nanyang Technological University Singapore (NTU) to offer PhD training to be carried out at your chosen lab at A*STAR Research Institutes, NUS or NTU. Students will be supervised by distinguished and world-renowned researchers in these labs.

Host/Eligible Nationality:

This PhD scholarship for Zimbabweans is taken in Singapore and is open to international students. Zimbabwean students are eligible. Upon successful completion, students will be conferred a Ph.D. degree by either NUS or NTU.

Field of study:

This opportunity is open to outstanding Lab scientists.

Worth of Scholarship:

The scheme covers:

  • An attractive annual stipend of SGD 24,000 which is to be increased to SGD 30,000 after passing the Qualifying Examination. This will come for 4 years.
  • Full support for tuition fees for 4 years of Ph.D. studies.
  • One-time SGD 1,000 Settling-in Allowance
  • One-time Airfare Grant of SGD 1,500

Edinburgh Global Research Scholarships

Applications have been invited by the Edinburgh Global Research Scholarship scheme for Ph.D. Research Programme in any field of study offered by the University for the 2023 academic session.

Host/Eligible Nationality:

The scholarship is to be taken and hosted at the University of Edinburgh, United Kingdom. It is open to international students. Students from Zimbabwe are eligible and can apply.

Field of study:

Students from any field of study offered at the university can apply.

Scholarship worth:

Each of the scholarships covers the difference between the tuition fee for a UK/EU graduate student and that chargeable to an overseas graduate student. The awards do not cover maintenance expenses.

Tsinghua University – Siemens China Scholarships

Siemens Limited, China is offering Siemens China Scholarships for international students to pursue a Ph.D. program at Tsinghua University.

Host/Eligible Nationality:

This program shall be hosted at Tsinghua University China. It is one of the Ph.D. scholarships available to Zimbabwean students and may also be available to other international students.

Field of study:

Students of Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science and Technology, Arts & Design, Software, Automation, Electrical Engineering, and related subjects are all eligible to apply.

The Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Scholarships

The Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant, 2023 is offered for a Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Ph.D. degree in the field of Arts (painting, drawing, sculpture or printmaking).

UWC School of Public Health Postdoctoral Fellowships 

Applications have been invited for the UWC School of Public Health Postdoctoral Fellowships in the field of Health Policy and Systems linked to the two NRF/DST SARChI Chairs in the School for the year 2023.

Host/Eligible Nationality:

Hosted in South Africa. Students from Zimbabwe and other Sub-Saharan African countries are eligible to apply.

The goal of this Postdoctoral Fellowship scheme is to contribute to career development in HPSR; building the field of HPSR with partners in South Africa and internationally; enhancement of the capacity of the UWC School of Public Health.

UCT Genetics Postdoctoral Research Fellowship 

The Genetics Postdoctoral Research Fellowship is now available at The University of Cape Town in South Africa for the year 2023. The University of Cape Town is a public research university located in Cape Town in the Western Cape province of South Africa.

Host/Eligible Nationality:

The scholarship is hosted and taken at The University of Cape Town. The scholarship is open to Zimbabwean Students and students from other Sub-Saharan African countries are eligible to apply.

Scholarship worth:

The scholarship is worth 300, 000 South African Rand per annum. The fellowship may be renewed for a second year depending on satisfactory progress and mutual agreement.

The Commonwealth Split-site Scholarship 

The Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Programme is one of the largest and most prestigious scholarship schemes for international study in the world. Since it was established in 1959, around 30,000 individuals have benefited – 24,000 of them have held awards funded by the United Kingdom.

Host/Eligible Nationality:

This is one the PhD scholarships for Zimbabweans hosted and taken in the United Kingdom and it is available to international students. Students from Zimbabwe and other international students are qualified to apply.

Field of Study:

All subject areas are eligible.

Scholarship worth:

A Commonwealth Split-site Scholarship covers full tuition fees for one year at the UK host university, a stipend for up to one year in the UK, return airfare, and other allowances. Stipend covers:

  • The living allowance which is at the rate of £1,084 per month, or £1,330 per month for those at universities in the London metropolitan area.
  • Warm clothing allowance
  • Study travel grant towards the cost of study

Ghent University Special Research Fund – Doctoral Scholarships for Candidates from Developing Countries

This is a PhD scholarship for Zimbabweans offered to promising PhD students from developing countries who wish to carry out half of their PhD research at Ghent University and half in a university in a home country.

Host/Eligible Nationality:

The first 2 years of the scholarship are hosted and taken at Ghent University, Belgium while the other 2 years the study must be co-financed at the partner university.

Scholarship worth: 

The Beneficiary receives a bench fee of €15,440 to cover part of the operational costs, as well as part of the traveling.

New Zealand Commonwealth Scholarships 2023

New Zealand Commonwealth Scholarships are prestigious scholarships that recognize New Zealand’s history and ties to the Commonwealth. The Commonwealth Scholarships are part of the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP) – an international program under which Commonwealth countries offer scholarships and fellowships to citizens of other Commonwealth states.

The purpose of the scholarships is set out in the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (external link), with the following key principles to:

  • Promote cooperation and share educational experience among all Commonwealth countries
  • Be available across the Commonwealth
  • Recognize and promote the highest level of intellectual achievement.

Host/Eligible Nationality:

NZ Commonwealth Scholarships are funded by the New Zealand Aid Programme, the New Zealand Government’s overseas aid and development program. They are managed by the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT).

Graduate Institute of Geneva Visiting Fellowships 2023 for International Researchers

Applications have been invited for the Ph.D. Research Fellowship Programme for outstanding young scholars from universities from developing and emerging countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, Geneva, Switzerland.

Host Nationality:

This PhD scholarship for Zimbabweans is hosted in Geneva, Switzerland.

Scholarship worth:

Scholars receive a contribution towards living expenses. The Institute will cover :

  • costs of travel and visas for participants and accommodation costs
  • It will ensure a monthly stipend to compensate in the loss’s case of income* in the institution of origin and to cover subsistence costs in Geneva; upon presentation of a certificate,
  • Participants will be provided with a workspace, and access to the Institute’s library and IT facilities.

Thailand International Postgraduate Scholarship and Training Program 

As part of bilateral and triangular development cooperation projects, the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA) offers over 700 training fellowships and 70 postgraduate scholarships for government officials from developing countries around the world through Annual International Training Course (AITC) and Thailand International Postgraduate Programme (TIPP).

The government of Ireland (Masters & PhD) Postgraduate Scholarship Programme 2023 for study in Ireland (Fully Funded)

The Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarship Programme is an established national initiative, funded by the Department of Education and Skills and managed by the Council. It is unique in the Irish research landscape and complements other channels for funding postgraduate education in the Irish eco-system.

Hosted/Eligible Nationality:

This is another PhD scholarship for Zimbabweans, hosted and taken in Ireland and it is open to international students. Students from Zimbabwe are eligible to apply.

Scholarship worth:

  • A stipend of €16,000 per annum
  • A contribution to fees, including non-EU fees, up to a maximum of €5,750 per annum
