DEGREE PROGRAM

For students who wish to enter directly into one of the Degree programs.

To be eligible to directly enter one of the online Bachelor of Arts degree programs, you’ll need one of the following (whichever is most recent):

• A minimum of a 75% average on your high school diploma with ENGL4U, plus two additional 4U courses. Additional three required courses may be either 4U or 4M; OR
• A 2-year college diploma with a minimum 2.9 GPA; OR
• A 3-year college diploma with a minimum 2.6 GPA; OR
• At least one full year of university with a minimum 2.6 GPA.

To be eligible to enter directly into the university online Bachelor of Science degree programs, you’ll need one of the following (whichever is most recent):

• A minimum of a 75% average on your high school diploma with ENG4U, Chemistry (SCH4U), Biology (SBI4U), and one 4U Math Course (MCV4U, MHF4U or MDM4U). Additional two required courses may be either 4U or 4M; OR
• A 2-year college diploma with a minimum 2.9 GPA plus the equivalent of ENG4U, Chemistry (SCH4U), Biology (SBI4U), and one 4U Math Course (MCV4U, MHF4U or MDM4U); OR
• A 3-year college diploma with a minimum 2.6 GPA plus the equivalent of ENG4U, Chemistry (SCH4U), Biology (SBI4U), and one 4U Math Course (MCV4U, MHF4U or MDM4U); OR
• At least one full year of university with a minimum 2.6 GPA plus the equivalent of ENG4U, Chemistry (SCH4U), Biology (SBI4U), and one 4U Math Course (MCV4U, MHF4U or MDM4U).

Note:

Suppose you already hold a Bachelor of Arts degree or Bachelor of Science degree (from Queen’s or another college or university). In that case, you cannot earn another BA or BSc (respectively) from Queen’s. However, if you already hold a BA, you may earn a BSc and vice versa.

Many first-year university courses in ENGL, MATH, CHEM, BIOL will count as equivalents to ENG4U, Chemistry (SCH4U), Biology (SBI4U), and a 4U Math Course (MCV4U, MHF4U or MDM4U). Please contact [email protected] for more info.

Apply to a degree program.

INTEREST STUDENT

For students who do not have the prerequisites to enter directly into a degree or certificate program.

To be eligible to apply as an Interest Student, you must be over 21 years of age in the calendar year of admission or have already completed, at minimum, the Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent. Also note that the Interest category is not intended as a pathway for students who wish to apply to on-campus studies. Once you begin as an Interest student, you must complete the progression plan as outlined.

Starting as a Non-Degree Interest Student

As an interested student, you can choose either a 3.0 unit class or a 6.0 unit class to start your first term of studies at Queen’s. If you choose a 3.0 unit class, you can take another 3.0 units the following semester. Suppose you achieve a minimum 1.6 GPA on these first 6.0 units. In that case, You’ll automatically move into a category called “Non-Degree Continuing,” where you can take up to 9.0 units per term. If you do not achieve a minimum 1.6 GPA on your first 6.0 units, you will not be eligible to take other classes at Queen’s.

Progressing from the Non-Degree to Degree or Certificate Category

Once you reach Queen’s total of 18.0 units at Queen’s University and reach a minimum of 1.6 GPA, you’ll be sent an email to ask you if you would like to move to one of the degrees (or certification) programs, and you can continue to get 9.0 units for each range. All courses you have completed as a student of interest will be counted in your degree.

Moving from part-time to full-time

If you have a cumulative GPA of 2.9 after 18.0 units (or 1.9 GPA after 24.0 units), you can go the extra mile by taking up to a full-time course load of 15.0 units per term.

NON-DEGREE CONTINUING

For students with previous post-secondary education who wish to take a few classes but don’t intend to work toward a degree.

To be eligible to apply as a Non-Degree Continuing Student, you’ll need one of the following (whichever is most recent):

• A minimum of a 75% average on your high school diploma with ENGL4U, plus two additional 4U courses. Additional three required courses may be either 4U or 4M; OR
• A 2-year college diploma with a minimum 2.9 GPA; OR
• A 3-year college diploma with a minimum 2.6 GPA; OR
• At least one full year of university with a minimum 2.6 GPA.

As a Non-Degree Continuing student, you’ll be able to use your previous education as a basis to allow you to take upper-year courses without pursuing a degree.

LETTER OF PERMISSION

For students currently at another university, you can take Queen’s courses to supplement your current studies by obtaining a letter of permission from your current school expressly indicating the course codes and how long you wish to enroll.

Although they recommend obtaining a permit letter from your home organization before submitting your application to ensure that their course is counted in the balance of your home program, it is not necessary to apply; you can obtain and send the permission letter to the university at any time during the period you study here.

Enrolment in future terms at Queen’s will require a new Letter of Permission and will require that you apply again.

CERTIFICATE PROGRAMS

For new students who wish to enter directly into the school online certificate programs.
As a new student looking to enter their online certificate programs directly, you’ll need one of the following (whichever is most recent):

• A minimum of a 75% average on your high school diploma with ENGL4U, plus two additional 4U courses. Additional three required courses may be either 4U or 4M; OR
• A 2-year college diploma with a minimum 2.9 GPA; OR
• A 3-year college diploma with a minimum 2.6 GPA; OR
• At least one full year of university with a minimum 2.6 GPA.

For current Queen’s students wishing to add an online certificate to their degree

Current Queen’s students wishing to add a certificate to their degree, please see the section below titled “Current Queen’s Students” for more information.

CURRENT QUEEN’S STUDENT

As a current student at Queen’s University, you do not need to apply to online courses. You can register for one of our SOLUS online courses. When you search for a semester on the “Search for a semester” screen, change the “Course career” to “undergraduate Online,” which will then display only online courses available. For more detailed instructions on registering, go to Getting Started, “Add or Drop Courses.”

Note that some class seats are reserved for students with an online bachelor’s degree. This may be why you got a “full semester” error while registering, even though seats are available in the semester. You may want to add yourself to the queue or keep trying to get a place during the open registration period at SOLUS.

TO COMPLETE A CERTIFICATE IN ADDITION TO YOUR DEGREE:

• Current On-Campus Queen’s Arts and Science students: If you are already an Arts and Science student attending classes on-campus at Queen’s and wish to complete a certificate program in addition to your degree, please email asc.registratio[email protected] with your request. Please note that the Certificate in Academic Writing is unavailable to on-campus Queen’s students.
• Current Queen’s Engineering, Business, Health Science students: If you are a Queen’s student in a faculty other than Arts and Science and wish to complete a certificate program besides your degree, please complete this webform with your request.
• Current Arts and Science Online students: If you are already an online student at Queen’s in an online degree program and wish to be added into one of the certificate programs, please email [email protected] with your request. Students currently in the Interest Category must complete 18.0 units at a 1.6 cumulative GPA to be eligible to request enrolment in one of the online certificate programs.
• Note: Students concurrently in a degree program can apply some units (not all) from the certificate towards their degree (or vice-versa). Visit each certificate page under the “program plan” for further information about how many units can be double-counted for that specific certificate.

PAST QUEEN’S STUDENT

As a returning Queen student, you may not need to apply to return to the Queen’s University. If you have graduated from your studies for more than a year, you must complete this form again for studies. There is no fee for this form.

Wait at least 48 hours for the form to be processed after submission. Once processed, you can log into SOLUS using your Queen’s NET ID and password and register in classes during the next open registration period.

TRANSFERRING TO ON-CAMPUS STUDIES

Once you’ve completed 24.0 units online at Queen’s (not including transfer credits you may be granted), you may be eligible to apply to transfer into on-campus degree programs, provided that spaces are available. You meet the minimum GPA requirements for the department you are applying to. Space and GPA thresholds vary by department and from year to year.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Personal Statement of Experience

The Personal Statement of Experience (PSE) essay is strongly recommended for students applying to a Queen’s first-year program. The PSE and Supplementary Essay are mandatory for all Commerce students.

English Language

QBridge is an English language pathway to Queen’s University for students who are academically competitive for admission to a Queen’s undergraduate degree program but do not meet the required admission standard for English language proficiency. The QBridge programs ensure that students are linguistically, academically, and culturally prepared to complete their Queen’s undergraduate studies.

Queen’s University Acceptance Rate in 2023

Admission to Queen’s University is offered continuously throughout the year, with a strong preference for first applications. With an extremely low admission rate of around 10.4% to 19.3% for undergraduate and graduate programs, the institute is one of the most difficult transit.

Admission decisions of the university get guided by various parameters like spectacular GPA & GMAT/GRE scores, extra-curricular activities, letters of recommendations and a strong personal essay of experience.

The basic average percentage of an entering undergraduate candidate is nearly 89.4%. While the art courses can be sought for with an 80% and above GPA, the highly competitive programs like business and Engineering require a 90 or above.

Applicants must remember that Queen’s University has a holistic admission approach. Therefore, no surprisingly high average amount can enter a candidate until they have a decent public profile.
