Sandia Prep School is unlike other preparatory schools in New Mexico. Firstly, it admits and tutors only students from 6th to 12th grade.

Secondly, the education at Sandia is student-centered. The curriculum is designed in such a way to address the individual need of every student.

As a result, the class size is small. Actually, there are 15 students in a class. This is because Sandia knows that it cannot achieve a student-centered education with large class size.

Again, Sandia understands that the intellectual development of students happens along lines other than academics. Consequently, there are other programs like arts, athletics, and activities.

  • Test- The admission test for all grade levels consists of reading comprehension (45-50 minutes), math (30-40 minutes), multiple-choice, and a writing sample (20 minutes each).
  • Student interview- Each student is interviewed by a member of staff in a friendly conversation about the student’s interests, talents, and experiences.

How do i Apply for Tuition Assistance?

Before we talk about the application process, students and parents should be abreast with the information we will discuss first.

Sandia partners with School and Student Services by NAIS (SSS) in our tuition assistance process.

The amount varies depending on the family’s needs and our available resources. Families are required to file for tuition assistance on an annual basis.

Sandia Prep school cannot make an award until both the Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS) and required tax documents are received.

If parents/guardians are divorced or separated, both parents/guardians must participate in the tuition assistance process by each submitting a separate application directly to SSS. Late filing may jeopardize an award.

What are the Schools at Sandia Prep school?

Sandia college prep school offers education for 6th to 12th-grade students as we have already mentioned. In this regard, the school is divided into:

  • Middle School
  • High/Upper school

Middle School (Grades 6 – 8)

Middle school is a lively place where students develop close relationships with teachers and their fellow students.

Sandia believes this web of relationships makes it possible for students to take risks in a variety of areas. They can learn where their talents lie and develop the skills they need to grow intellectually and academically.  

Basically, we will out some of the courses learnt in each grade.

a. 6th/7th Grades 

The 6th-grade program focuses on fostering joy in learning and teaches students the academic skills necessary to succeed at Prep.

The 7th-grade program provides students opportunities to explore, develop, and refine skills needed at school and in their communities.

Students get a solid background in reading and writing, that is language arts, social studies, and science.

They also gain fundamental skills in maths, art, and media rotation exposes students to a variety of experiences and skills in drama, visual arts, music, and computer skills. Electives include performing arts and DareDevil Design.


b. 8th Grade 

The 8th-grade program is designed to strengthen skills learned in middle school as well as prepare them for the rigor of high school.

8th-grade courses at Sandia prep include: History; Science, comprising physics, chemistry, and fundamental lab skills; Math, primarily Algebra 1; English, a combination of classic and contemporary literature; and Modern Language, emphasizing communication and oral proficiency in French or Spanish.

In addition, there are Physical Education, Arts, and Electives where students explore athletics, music, art, and engineering.


Upper /High School (Grades 9 – 12)

The curriculum of Sandia prep high school emphasizes design-thinking and innovation.

Students get opportunities to test their talents and to develop their skills in a variety of academic disciplines.

The basic courses they learn are English, Science, History, Mathematics, Modern Languages, Fine Arts, Digital Media and Communications, and Physical Education.

Students may also pursue in-depth education in elective courses or take advanced courses at the University of New Mexico and Central New Mexico Community College under concurrent enrollment program.

The elective courses are in various disciplines, including engineering and coding, independent study, Odyssey Scholars Program, and Entrepreneurial Studies.
