SSP is known as the Special Scholarship Program. The special Scholarship program from its inception 2003, aims at providing support to universities in the area of research development advancement.

Basically, SSP Scholarship has a three years curriculum and it is hosted in Kochi University of Technology (KUT) which provides a comprehensive education in a multidisciplinary environment.

Moreso, this Scholarship program is for doctoral degree students. In the same vein, each student pursues a doctoral course in English while at the same time assisting his/her host professor in his/her research projects and receiving monthly payment in return for his/her contribution to the projects.

Furthermore, It is designed to help diligent and talented students with limited financial resources, especially foreign students from emerging countries, who are ready to devote themselves to the expected research and related studies for the coming three years so as to finally accomplish their academic goal.

  • Winners will be exempted from paying the entrance examination fee which is 30,000 yen and the 535,800 yen/year tuition fee
  • Monthly Salary of 150,000 yen for research project work.
  • If you are an international student, you get to travel and the cost of living allowance which is 150,000 yen.
  • Also, Special classes on English technical writing and research writing class if you are a first or second-year doctoral student.

  • First, you must get permission from the applicant’s preferred SSP project leader.
  • Then get a certificate from an accredited institution similar to the Master’s degree offered at Kuwait University after 18 years of education. Or
  • Must have planned to obtain this certificate before the date of registration at Kuwait University
  • You must be less than 35.
  • Also, you must have an excellent academic record and a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from famous universities
  • Finally, you must be good at English.

Steps on how to Apply For SSP Scholarship

  1. Choose one research project from the SSP Research Project List

  2. Send a completed Pre-Application Request to the leader of your preferred project by e-mail and obtain the leader’s permission to apply for that SSP project. The project leader’s email address is provided in the project’s description.

  3. Then, complete all the required documents and submit them to KUT by post.

Note, the documents must reach KUT by the deadline.

Note, all required documents listed below must arrive at the International Relations Division by the deadline. The documents submitted will not be returned.

  • Application form
  • Original bachelor’s degree academic transcript
  • Master’s degree academic transcript
  • Original master’s degree certificate in English.
  • Past fields of study in English — approximately 1 page.
  • Research outline in English — Research outline which you plan to do at KUT, approximately 1 page.
  • Two signed recommendation letters
  • Original certificate of health in English issued within the past 6 months.
