The University of Florida (Florida or UF) is an American public land-grant, sea-grant, and space-grant research university established in 1853.
It is located in Gainesville, Florida. The university has academic affiliations with the State University System of Florida, Association of American Universities, Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities, Universities Research Association and Southeastern Universities Research Association and sporting affiliations with NCAA Division I FBS – SEC, Mascot, Albert, and Alberta. The University of Florida Tuition costs for the 2023 academic year are $26,389 for in-state undergraduate students and $28,666 for out-of-state students.

According to the 2018 Academic Ranking of World Universities, the University of Florida is ranked 86th among world universities and 41st in the United States based on overall research output and faculty awards.
In 2017, Washington Monthly ranked the University of Florida 18th among national universities based on research, community service, and social mobility. University of Florida Scholarships
300 scholarships are awarded to freshmen students with an average family income of $18,408. The Lombardi Scholars Program is a merit scholarship for university Florida students. The scholarship offers $2,700 a semester for eight to ten semesters. The J. Wayne Reitz Scholars Program is a leadership and merit-based scholarship for the University of Florida students. Its annual $2,500 stipend may be renewed for up to three years.
The Machen Florida Opportunity Scholars Program is a full grant and scholarship financial aid package designed to help new, low-income UF students that are the first to attend college their families. The University of Florida has an honours program with over 100 courses offered exclusively to the students. After they are accepted to the university, students must apply separately to the Honors Program and are accepted based on their academic achievement. The program offers special scholarships, internships, research, and study abroad opportunities.

University of Florida Admission Requirements
The UF admission application form has to be filled and submitted before November 1, along with the $30 nonrefundable application fee plus $5 processing fee or fee waiver.
The freshman application opens each year in August, the Student Self-Reported Academic Record (SSAR) is due by December 1 and the test scores should be received from the testing agency by December 15.
Applicants must submit a personal essay of approximately 2500 characters, including spaces.
At UF the first term of study may begin during the summer or fall, so students have the opportunity to enrol at UF during the spring and summer terms and can select their preferred term of entry between summer and fall. All freshman applicants must complete an SSAR with the following exceptions: GED graduates can submit their official GED results and official partial high school transcript(s).
Applicants from non-U.S.-based school systems can submit their official or certified copies of all secondary school records and/or examination results. A certified English translation must accompany all academic records, not in English. Official scores from the SAT, ACT or both must be sent to UF directly from the testing agency, and the scores must arrive from the testing agency by December 15.
The institutional codes for UF are 5812 (SAT) and 0758 (ACT), respectively. The minimum required SAT scores are: Reading = 24, Writing and Language = 25, and Math = 24. And the minimum score for ACT is 19 in the Reading section and 19 in the Math section. Freshman international applicants (non-U.S. citizens or permanent residents) will apply to UF using the Coalition Application.
Ensure to submit the Coalition Application and UF supplemental section by November 1, along with your $30 application fee plus $5 processing fee in U.S. dollars.
International freshman applicants are required to submit secondary and college or university credentials from non-U.S. institutions to a credential evaluation agency for a course-by-course evaluation with grade point average calculation.
In addition to the SAT or ACT freshman international applicants whose first language is not English are strongly encouraged to submit a score from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), the Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) to demonstrate English proficiency. The university’s TOEFL code is 5812. Home-schooled students and students attending non-accredited schools should:
i)Send transcripts from all previous institutions you have attended, including a homeschool transcript.
ii)Submit scores from the SAT Subject Tests in mathematics (Level II-C), foreign language, science, and social science
48-72 hours after submitting your online application, check the status of your application to link your SSAR to your UF application. Allow two-three weeks of processing time for all other items to be received and added to your application.
Log on to the Check Application Status site with the same username and password to submit your application through the Coalition website. Ensure to click the link for the SSAR to connect your submitted SSAR with your UF application.
From this page, you will be able to check your admission decision by clicking the Check Application Status button when it becomes available. Decisions for freshmen who applied by November 1 will be available in mid-February.
The University of Florida Graduate School coordinates all schools and college graduate programs of the university.
Students interested in pursuing a graduate degree at UF should contact the departments directly to learn more about admissions criteria and required documents to be submitted such as transcripts, recommendation letters, and more. Apply online and submit UF’s non-refundable application fee of $30.00.
Credit card payments require an additional $7.00 processing fee. UF offers more than 250 graduate degree programs. Review your degree programs for application requirements. 24-48 hours after submitting your online application, a unique 8-digit UFID will be available on the status of your application. This identification number should be used in all e-mail communication and any subsequent applications submitted.
However, you have to submit additional applications using your assigned UFID as that can significantly impact the matching of test scores, transcripts and financial aid information to your academic record. Endeavor to use the same username and password to submit your CollegeNET application.
Test score results must be sent directly to UF from the testing agency. Applicants must submit GRE scores that are acceptable to their program of interest. Some MFA, MM, Art Ed., Music Ed. Performance students with the College of the Arts do not need GRE scores. All MBA applicants must submit satisfactory scores on the Graduate Management Admissions Test.
GMAT scores may also be accepted by certain MHA, Sport Management, and Food and Resource Economics programs. Some engineering programs will accept FE scores as a substitute for the GRE.
Applicants with a previous graduate or professional degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution may be exempted from the Graduate Record Exam or Graduate Management Admission Test at the program’s discretion.
If scores cannot be sent electronically, they should be mailed to the UF Office of Admissions, PO Box 114000 (201 Criser Hall), Gainesville, Florida 32611-4000, U.S.A. UF requires proficiency in spoken and written English and accepts the results of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) the Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB), or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
The university’s TOEFL code is 5812. International applicants are exempted from the English proficiency requirement if enrolled for one academic year in a degree-seeking program at a recognized/regionally accredited university or college in a country where English is the official language prior to their anticipated term of enrollment at UF.
International applicants must submit to the Office of Admissions an official copy in the native language of each transcript, mark sheet and diploma/degree certificate from each university or college attended, along with certified, literal English translations for documents not originally issued in English.
Minimum scores acceptable for admissions are; TOEFL: 550 (paper test); 80 (Internet-based), IELTS: 6, MELAB: 77. However, the TOEFL ITP is not accepted for admission purposes.
The university requires proof of financial support for the first year of study. You cannot be issued the I-20 until you provide financial confirmation indicating full coverage of the estimated total cost of your educational and living expenses. You will receive instructions on submitting these documents after admission to UF.
You can check the receipt of materials at the Office of Admissions by clicking the Check Your Status button. At the graduate level, decisions are made at the departmental so applicants will receive their decision directly from the academic unit to which they applied.
Florida Gators Football
The Florida Gators football program represents the University of Florida in American football. The Florida Gators compete in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the Eastern Division of the Southeastern Conference (SEC).
They play their football home games in Steve Spurrier-Florida Field at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium (“The Swamp”) on the university’s Gainesville campus. The Gators have won three national championships and eight SEC titles in the 111-season history of Florida football.
The team’s head coach is Dan Mullen, and their Athletic director is Scott Stricklin. The Florida Gators played their First season in 1906. The team’s uniform colour is Orange and Blue, and it has an official website at floridagators.com.
