University Of Houston Campus
The campus of the University of Houston is located in “southeast” of downtown Houston, at 4800 Calhoun Road. The campus is roughly bisected by Cullen Boulevard—a thoroughfare that has become synonymous with the university.
UH is a multi-campus university with a branch campus located in Sugar Land. The University of Houston–Clear Lake (UHCL), the University of Houston–Downtown (UHD), and the University of Houston–Victoria (UHV) are separate universities and are not branch campuses of UH.
The University’s campus framework has five core areas and districts; inner campus, the Arts District, the Professional District, the Wheeler District, and the Stadium District.
The inner campus consists of the academic core of the university and consists of the M.D. Anderson Library, the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics including the Physics Department, the College of Technology, and the Honors College.
The interior of the campus has the Roy G. Cullen Building, the Old Science Building, and the Ezekiel W. Cullen Building. Academic and research facilities include the Cullen Performance Hall, the Science and Engineering Research and Classroom Complex, and Texas Center for Superconductivity, and various other science and liberal arts buildings.
This area of campus features the reflecting pool at Cullen Family Plaza, the Lynn Eusan Park, and various plazas and green spaces.
The Arts District which is located in the northern part of campus is home to the university’s School of Art, the Moores School of Music, the School of Theatre and Dance, the Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture, and the Valenti School of Communication.
The Professional District is located northeast and east of the university campus and has facilities of the University of Houston Law Center, the Cullen College of Engineering, and the C.T. Bauer College of Business.
This area of campus is home to Calhoun Lofts, which is an upper-level and graduate housing facility. The East Parking Garage is located on the east end of the district. Adjacent to the district is the University Center (UC), the largest student union on campus.
The Wheeler District is located in the southern portion of the campus, along Wheeler Avenue and east of Cullen Boulevard.

The UH campus has the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Performing Arts, which houses the Lyndall Finley Wortham Theatre and Moores Opera Center.
The Cullen Performance Hall, a 1,544 seat proscenium theater hosts a variety of events sponsored by departments and organizations at the university including contemporary music concerts, opera, modern dance, and theatrical performances put on by groups in and outside the Houston area.
The Blaffer Gallery exhibits the works of both visiting artists and those of students in the university’s School of Art.
The University of Houston Libraries consists of the M.D. Anderson Library and three branch libraries: the Music Library, the Weston A. Pettey Optometry Library, and the William R. Jenkins Architecture and Art Library.
The LeRoy and Lucile Melcher Center for Public Broadcasting houses the studios and offices of KUHT Houston PBS, the nation’s first public television station, KUHF (88.7 FM), Houston’s NPR station, the Center for Public Policy Polling and television studio labs.
The university has an on-campus Hilton hotel that is part of the Conrad N. Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management. The hotel is staffed by students in the College of Hotel and Restaurant Management.
University of Houston Courses and Majors
The University of Houston is one of four public universities in Texas with a Phi Beta Kappa chapter. UH offers 282-degree programs: 111 bachelors, 121 masters, 47 research doctorates and three professional doctorate degrees in law, optometry, and pharmacy.
UH’s alumni base is the largest in the Houston area with 260,000, the university awards over 9,000 degrees annually.

University Of Houston Athletes
The University of Houston’s 17-sport intercollegiate program is a member of the American Athletic Conference. Houston was a member of the Southwest Conference until 1995 when the university joined Conference USA until 2013.
During which, the Cougars won 33 C-USA titles. UH’s notable achievements include 16 national titles in men’s golf, 1 national title in Cross-Country, five NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four appearances, and two College World Series appearances. Over 50 Olympic athletes have attended UH, bringing home 33 medals, (19 gold).
Former Olympian and UH alumnus Leroy Burrell is the men’s track and field head coach, Kelvin Sampson is the eighth men’s basketball head coach, Ronald Hughey is currently the women’s basketball coach while Major Apple White is the Head Coach of the Cougar Football team.
The university has an intercollegiate sports program that competes in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in baseball, basketball, cross country, American football, golf, and track and field for men; basketball, cross country, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis, and track and field for women.
The University of Houston Admission and Tuition Fee
The tuition fee to study at the University of Houston is $8,537 per year for in-state residents. For admission requirements and deadlines applicable to the University of Houston, applicants visit UH Admissions.
Freshmen and Transfer Undergraduate applications are processed and evaluated through the Office of Admissions and, applications for international students are handled at the Office of International Admissions.
If applicants do not submit all required credentials and pay the application fee by the deadline, their application will not be processed for a decision. Applicants are required to submit all transcripts by the deadline, even if they are currently attending the school.

For Transfer and Former Student Admission, applicants with 15 or more hours must meet the following conditions for approval into NSM:
2.50 GPA or greater in all college-level work attempted.
In all college-level Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Computer Science, Geology, Mathematics, and Physics courses attempted. 2.50 GPA or greater
2.50 GPA or greater in all courses from either CATEGORY I or CATEGORY II attempted.
Students who have math and science credit from out of state institutions that need to be evaluated for direct equivalences may be conditionally admitted as an NSM unspecified major for one semester. Students who sit out for more than 13 months are required to reapply for admission to UH if they wish to continue their pursuit of a degree. At the time of their reapplication, they will have to meet the current requirements for admission to UH for transfer and former UH students.
