Applications are been accepted at the university of California University of California Global Health Institute , USA ,for the GloCal Health Fellowship and submission begins in August each year, with applications due November 1 for fellowships beginning the following July. The GloCal Health Fellowship is a career development fellowship sponsored by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Fogarty International Center (FIC), as well as a consortium at the UCGHI.
Level: Fellowships are available for Junior faculty, postdoctoral fellows, senior professional students (MD, DDS, DVM, PharmD, etc.) and advanced doctoral students to undertake research.
‣ Scholarship covers: Fellowships provide 11 consecutive months of stipend support, health insurance, modest research training costs (approximately $20,000), travel costs to and from the international field site, tuition support for 2-3 online courses for credit, and a weeklong orientation on the campus of the National Institutes of Health.
School(Institutions/ Country): | Postdoctoral fellows and junior faculty accepted into this program will be at their international research site for the full 11 consecutive months of their fellowship. Accepted doctoral/professional student trainees will spend their first four-week period at UCSF participating in the Designing Clinical Research course online, followed by 10 months at the international research site. All trainees must also attend a mandatory weeklong NIH training in Washington, DC at the beginning of their fellowship.
Field(s): Fellowships are awarded for studying diseases and conditions in developing countries. The program will provide trainees with outstanding, interdisciplinary education and training in innovative global health research designed to improve health for populations around the world. Funding for research related, but not limited to, the following topics: Agriculture, Anthropology, Biology, Biostatistics/Bioinformatics, Chemistry, Geography, Law, Medicine, Molecular Biology, Nursing, Nutrition, Oceanography, Pharmacy, Physics, Political Science, Psychology, Public health, Sociology and Veterinarian Medicine.

Beneficiaries(Target Groups): GloCal Health Fellowship is targeted for Citizens of the United States are eligible for this fellowship but postdocs, can be citizens from one of the 16 low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) represented in the GloCal Health Fellowship Program (Bangladesh, Brazil, Chile, China, Ethiopia, Guatemala, India, Kenya, Mexico, Mozambique, Panama, Peru, Tanzania, Uganda, Ukraine and Zimbabwe).

Eligibility
This GloCal Health Fellowship is open to:
‣ Junior faculty with a current NIH Career Development Award (K series);
‣ Post-doctoral fellows; -Senior professional students (MD, DDS, DVM, PharmD, etc.) in health-related disciplines (human or animal) such as medicine, nursing (PhD level only), dentistry, optometry, etc.; and
‣ Advanced doctoral students (PhD, DrPH, etc.) in fields such as health sciences, social and behavioral sciences, nutrition, environment, etc.
‣ Junior faculty, doctoral students, and professional students who apply must currently be affiliated with one of the ten University of California campuses. However, post-doc applicants do not necessarily need to be affiliated with a UC campus prior to applying.
‣ Applicants must be: Citizens of the United States or its territories or possessions, or persons lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent residence (resident aliens must include their green card number in their application), OR citizens from one of the 16 low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) represented in the GloCal Health Fellowship Program.
‣ Applicants from LMICs must carry out their fellowships in their home countries.
‣ All applicants must have demonstrated interest in, and statement of commitment to, a career in global health research.
‣ All applicants must have the support of one of the four UC campuses participating in the fellowship (UCSF, UCSD, UCLA, UCD) as well as an affiliated international site, including committed mentors from both the UC and the international site.
‣ Preference is given to US-based post-doctoral applicants and professional student applicants who have received support from a UC NIH T32 or D43-based research training grant, or are funded by an NIH Career Development Award (K series), respectively.
‣ U. S. citizens or permanent residents who are advanced doctoral students in global health sciences (e.g., medicine, dentistry, nursing, public health, veterinary medicine, or basic biomedical sciences) at any of the 10 UC campuses may apply.
‣ PhD students should have completed their Master’s-level coursework, and professional doctoral degree candidates should have completed their basic science courses and one year of clinical training.
‣ Doctoral students who are enrolled in a joint doctoral program between a UC and another university (e.g., SDSU) are eligible to apply.
