These students may not know that the University of Washington offers a variety of scholarships to help students pay for school attendance. About the University of Washington

The University of Washington (commonly known as UW, simply Washington, or not officially U-Dub) is a public research university located in Seattle, Washington.

Founded in 1861, Washington was established for the first time in downtown Seattle approximately ten years after its founding to promote its economic development.

The university has two additional campuses in Tacoma and Bothell. Overall, UW encompasses over 500 buildings and over 20 million gross square footage of space, including one of the largest library systems in the world with over 26 university libraries, as well as the UW Tower, lecture halls, art centers, museums, laboratories, stadiums, and conference centers.

The university offers bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees through 140 departments in various colleges and schools, sees about 46,000 in total student enrollment every year, and functions on a quarter system.

University of Washington Scholarships 

The University of Washington-Seattle offers scholarships that cover a wide range of academic pursuits, musical and athletic talents, community service, and research activities. They also offer Washington State University Scholarships to out-state students.

Their scholarship programs are highly competitive as they have more talented students than we have scholarship funds.

Freshman scholarships

Some of the freshman Scholarships offered by the University of Washington includes:

  • Presidential Scholar
  •  Purple & Gold

#1. Presidential Scholar

The Presidential Scholarship award is worth $10,000, and it is given to citizens of Washington DC who possess exceptional qualities, leadership skills, community engagement, and promise. It is renewable for up to four years. Washington residents are considered automatically with their application to the UW.

#2. Purple & Gold

The Purple & Gold Scholarship is awarded to U.S. students (U.S. citizens, permanent residents, refugees, and undocumented residents) who are not residents of Washington state. Amounts vary by the recipient, are given for four years, and may be used only for the Seattle campus.

This scholarship is awarded the following conditions:

  • Recipients are not now, and nor will they become, residents of the state of Washington for the four-year duration of the award.
  •  Recipients will confirm their intention to enroll at the UW for the autumn quarter by May 1 of the year they wish to enroll. May 1 is the National Candidate Reply Date.
  •  Recipients will enroll as full-time students, defined as a minimum of 12 credits per quarter for three quarters of the academic year.
  •  The scholarship is renewable for four years as long as recipients maintain good academic standing.
  •  The scholarship may not be deferred.

Note: Students admitted to UW Academy are not eligible for the Purple & Gold Scholarship.

 University of Washington Merit Scholarships 

These scholarships are offered to exceptional students in various fields. Students can log in to this website and search the list of options.

Some of these awards are offered by UW, and others are on the list of awards for which you can be nominated during your stay at UW, but who receive competitive scholarships at UW.

UW Diversity Scholarship for Freshmen

This scholarship was created for a freshman who enters a minority. In particular, the candidate must belong to one of the following ethnic groups: Hispanic, African-American, Hawaiian / Pacific Island or Indian / Alaska.

In addition, the candidate must be a resident in Washington State, have financial needs, have a solid academic record, and participate in community service.

This scholarship offers the recipient $ 40,000, spread over four years in increments of $ 10,000.

To apply, students must complete the FAFSA, which will be available from 1 October. Since all students are automatically screened, no separate application form is required. More information about this price can be found here.

The following factors may be considered in the selection process:

  • Academic record (GPA, curriculum, SAT/ACT scores)
  • Personal background and community service
  • Financial need, as evidenced from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Washington Application for State Financial Aid (WASFA)
  • Residency in the state of Washington
  • Part of an underserved group such as youth in foster care, historically underrepresented minority students, and students who are the first in their family to pursue a college degree.

To be considered, students are encouraged to file the FAFSA/WASFA as soon after October 1 as possible, but before January 15.

Students whose admission applications indicate that they may meet the scholarship criteria will be reviewed automatically – no additional application is needed.

Eligible students will be notified in March.

Transfer scholarships

#1. Martin Family Foundation Scholarship programs

The Martin Family Foundation supports the Martin Achievement Scholarship and the Martin Family Foundation Honors Scholarship.

Both are designed to enable exceptional students of Washington community colleges to complete their bachelor’s degrees on the UW’s Seattle campus.

They fund students at different points in their community college careers and may be renewable each year for up to three years of undergraduate support.

#2. Washington Space Grant Consortium

The Washington NASA Space Grant Community College Transfer Scholarships are awarded to promising community college students planning to transfer to the UW to continue their engineering, math, science or technology studies.

Students must be Washington state residents and citizens of the U.S. to be eligible to apply, and they may plan to enter the UW in autumn, winter, or spring quarters. Applications are due in June for the following academic year.

Honorary Scholarships

Students enrolling in the University of Washington’s Honors program have several additional scholarship options. Any specialized student in the first, second or third year can apply for these scholarships.

The lowest price (ROMAN Book Award) offers a scholarship of $ 250. Some of the best prizes (Greene scholarship) offer the recipient one-year tuition in his country. The Mary Gates Achievement Scholarship is open to second-year students living in the state of WA.

This scholarship offers $ 10,000 for the lucky winner. A variety of other scholarships are also available to students ranging in value from $ 1,000 to several thousand dollars. A full list of these scholarships can be found here.

In addition to the awards described above, students should contact the department and college they wish to enroll. Departments often have their own budgets and a degree of discretion over how they award prizes.
