UberEats vs Postmates | Which Is Better In 2022? Legit or Scam

December 20, 2022 by jemima Leave a Comment

ubereats vs postmates

If you want to make food deliveries but don’t know which between these good options – Uber Eats and Postmates to choose from, this UberEATS vs. Postmates discussion is definitely what you need.

This is because they are both popular food delivery service options with a good structure.

Many restaurants offer food delivery services but many people are stuck on using the most popular of them.

While there are a lot of popular options like GrubHub, Door Dash, to name a few, we have brought the contest to two of the best: Uber Eats vs Postmates.

This article highlights the outstanding features of both the Uber Eats and Postmates delivery app.

What is UberEats?

From its name you can easily deduce that it’s a branch from the Parent company Uber, a popular ride service in the U.S.

UberEATS was launched in 2014 as an online food delivery service that is available in over 40 countries and over 5000 cities worldwide.

Over the years, Uber Eats has grown to be very popular, providing customers with food of their choice from their favourite restaurant and of the day.

Uber Eats partners with a variety of restaurants. Also, the company recently expanded into liquor stores and small grocery stores. This means you can have any meal or drink you want to be delivered to you.

How Does Uber Eats Work?

If you are totally new to Uber Eats, here’s how it works. Firstly, install the app and set up your account. Afterwards, you are immediately presented with a list of restaurants partnering with Uber Eats to deliver food in your area.

You can read menus, see reviews and ratings before you finally place your order. You can also save your debit or credit card information on the app to allow for easy payment and quick delivery of order.

Once you have decided on an item, you simply add it to your cart and when you are done, you’ll see your address, an estimated delivery time, and the price of the order including tax and delivery fee. When everything looks just right to you, just tap Place order- and that’s it.

If you’ve used the Uber app, you’d be familiar with the Uber Eats app as well. It works much the same way.

You can sign up on the Uber Eats app by clicking the button below.

Well, this is for the customers. What about the drivers?

For the drivers, you need to sign up differently. You will be required to fill out your Social security number. This is used to run a background check on you.

Then if you meet all their driver requirements (which we will discuss shortly), You can start delivering. All you have to do is pick up the order and deliver it. After the delivery, they deposit your earnings for that delivery run in your account.

Uber Eats drivers can deliver meals by car, bike, scooter, or even foot, but this really depends on the market.

What Is Postmates?

Postmates is another online food delivery service. However, it differs from Ubereats because it’s not just food that can get delivered through Postmates. You can order other things like kitchen staples and party supplies like alcohol and still receive them through Postmates.

Postmates has been around longer than UberEATS since it was launched in 2011 and has since then become a household name operating in over 3500 US Cities.

However, Postmates has a smaller audience, as it’s available in fewer markets compared to Uber Eats.

How Does Postmates Work?

Basically, Postmates works the same way as Uber Eats. You install the app, set up your account, browse through the restaurants, place your order, and have your food delivered.

However, there are minor differences. There is more variety with Postmates. The waiting time is longer since the driver places the order.

Another significant difference is that Postmates is not necessarily limited to food. Even though food delivery is its primary goal, you can get other kinds of stuff delivered too. You’ll find many restaurants and shops available and not just big brands.

Sign up on Postmate and get your order straight to you.

SIGNUP ON POSTMATES

Now that’s for the customers, let’s see how Postmates work for its drivers.

It might not seem very different for customers, but the experience is quite different for drivers. With Postmates, drivers have slightly more work cut out for them. This is because, they have to place the order themselves, sometimes call customers to ask about substitutes, or make the payment for the order at the restaurant.

Because of this process, It takes slightly longer to get your delivery compared to uberEATS.
To become a Postmate driver, use the separate Postmate driver’s app and enter your basic information. if you meet the requirements, a Postmate representative will contact you to complete your application.

Finally, after it approves everything, you’ll receive your Postmates card and bag, and you’ll be all set to deliver.

Postmates has a strict background check and will disqualify workers if they have a criminal history.

UberEats Vs. Postmates: Who is Winning?

Many users of both Ubereats and Postmates admit they are the top food delivery service apps.

However, this food delivery services have their great downsides. Choosing which is the best can be very challenging.

Not to worry, here are the most important features of UberEats and Postmates

#1. Ubereats vs Postmates: User Interface Accessibility

Both Ubereats and Postmates have apps with a good and eye-catchy user interface. This makes it very easy to navigate and place your order even if it’s your first time.

Both apps have built-in maps that let you track your order. This also increases the possibility of taking many orders within the same location. As the driver is likely to pick up all orders in the same route.

Drivers who already work for Uber can easily switch to Ubereats because they can use the same Uber app. The Ubereats app has a 4.8-star rating in the iTunes App Store, with over 470K users backing the rating.

On the downside, the Postmates app has a lot of bug issues as users complain they pay the delivery fee again despite paying upfront delivery fees. This issue has affected the Postmates app rating, reducing it to a 3.2-star rating with about 9k users backing the rating.

Generally, customers can bypass downloading the apps and just go ahead to others using a computer on their website.

#2. Cost of Delivery

Though you may have your favorite food delivery service app between the two, the next issue between them is the pricing.

For UberEats, their customers pay the cost of the food alongside applicable taxes and an already determined Uber Eats fee. The average delivery fee is $4.99 and it depends on the location.
For Postmates, each pricing comes with an already predetermined delivery fee. It is based on if the restaurant is a Postmate partner.

Restaurants that are not Postmate partners have a delivery fee of $5.99. While Postmate Partners have a reduced delivery fee of $3.99 which entirely depends on the location.
The difference in delivery fee has little to no effect on driver pay.

Generally, new customers can save money using the promo codes available to them as new customers on the app. On UberEats, you get a $5 discount on your first two orders. While on Postmate, there are special promotion codes available.

#3. UberEats vs Postmates: Driver Requirement

Both platforms have their own driver requirements which are necessary for several reasons.
For UberEats you need to meet the minimum working age for that particular city. It could vary from place to place but it’s usually between 18-19yrs. You must also have a driver’s license and at least a one-year driving experience.

Meanwhile, for Postmates, you just have to be at least 18 years old.

#4. UberEats vs Postmates: Vehicle Requirement

Uber Eats allows you to deliver using a car, bike, or scooter.
For the car, it should be a 2 or 4-door made from 1998 or after. The vehicle’s insurance should be valid and up to date.

In the case of a scooter, it can be any 2-wheel scooter with a motor of 50cc or less. The scooter should not be able to travel faster than 30 mph.

If you want to use a bike, you just need an ID issued by the government. However, this option is not available in every location.

On the other hand, Postmates has no vehicle requirement.

#5. UberEats vs Postmates : Order Delivery

Between the two platforms, there is no major difference in the delivery process. The difference lies in the delivery location.

For Postmates, it’s a straight door delivery, Regardless of any situation, the customer has to receive his package straight at his doorstep.

Besides that, some Postmate order doesn’t require delivery. Postmate allows customers to come and pickup their order themselves.

For UberEats, it is dependent on location. In some cities, it is a doorstep delivery, while in others it is a curbside delivery.- a delivery of your item (s) to the curb at the end of your driveway.

#6. UberEats vs Postmates: Earnings

The pay structure of the two platforms is relatively similar. UberEats drivers are expected to earn somewhere between $8 to $12 per hour because UberEats deducts 25% to 35% as their profit cut from their delivery fee.

Since Uber is well-known in most cities, drivers earn more. They can even pick up passengers if they have a car that meets the required criteria.

Meanwhile, for Postmates, drivers start out with a basic $1.35 per order. Then, for every minute they have to wait earns them $0.10, and each mile traveled is an extra $1.03.
