Under the scheme, there will be income support of about 6,000/ per year that small and marginal farmers’ families will receive. Actually, they will receive this amount in three equal installments. It is for the small and marginal farmer families having combined landholding/ownership of up to 2 hectares.

The following people cannot benefit from this scheme. They include; Former or present holders of constitutional posts, state ministers, legislative, chairpersons of district panchayats. In addition, all serving or retired officers of state ministries, departments, and employees of local bodies.

Lastly, any retired person with a monthly income of Rs.10,000 or more.

#2. Prime Minister Agricultural Irrigation Scheme

In the year 2015/16, the Prime Minister Agricultural Irrigation Scheme was started by the Government of India to promote irrigation system. Presently, this irrigation system in Bihar is being adopted in about 0.5 percent of the total area. Though it is not much, the acceptance is improving.

Under this scheme, an additional top-up is given to farmers on behalf of the state government. 90 percent subsidy is given to all categories of farmers under drip and 75 percent under sprinkler.

This means that in addition to the general benefit, the farmers will receive these.

Basically, this scheme uses the micro-irrigation system. Micro-irrigation is an advanced irrigation system by which water is given at short intervals by specially constructed plastic pipes in the root zone of the plant. And when this method is used, 60 percent less water is used by the farmer than in the traditional irrigation.

The benefit of adopting this system is that it saves about 25 to 30 percent fertilizer. Also, it increases the productivity of the crop by 40 to 50 percent and the quality of the product is high. In addition, there is a 60 to 70 percent reduction in the weeds. Because of this, the cost of the workers is reduced and the process of diseases on plants also reduces.
