Amazon provides “Voluntary Time Off,” or “VTO,” to the majority of their entry-level employees, in what appears to be a rare act of generosity from upper management. VTO allows a worker to choose to end their shift early and go home without being compensated.

While VTO is unpaid, Amazon does not deduct any accrued leave balances or other benefits from employees who take it. Another thing to remember is that VTO is penalty-free, and it is entirely up to the Amazon employee whether or not to accept it.
