National Rice Month, observed in September, honors the harvest of this modest but potent grain that has won the hearts and stomachs of Americans for over 300 years. In six states (Arkansas, California, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, and Texas), family farms are responsible for growing about 85% of the rice that Americans eat.

This is where you come in; that’s an interesting fact not many people know! The National Rice Month Scholarship Video Contest gives seniors in high school who live in one of those six states with significant rice production the chance to share a narrative about American rice.

Make a three-minute or shorter movie or animation highlighting this practical, delectable, locally sourced grain. Tell us why rice is essential to you, your state, or the entire planet. Inform and amuse us.
