St. George\u2019s University is a private international university in Grenada, West Indies, offering degrees in medicine, veterinary medicine, public health, the health sciences, nursing, arts and sciences, and business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To provide context, the admission rate at St. George’s Medical School in Grenada, West Indies, is 41%<\/strong>. This contrasts markedly with the admit rates at the most selective medical schools in the U.S., such as Harvard, with admit rate of\u00a03.7%<\/strong>, Johns Hopkins of\u00a03.9%,<\/strong>\u00a0and Stanford, at\u00a04.7%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Caribbean students are typically saddled with higher debt than medical students in the United States, in part because tuition is generally higher. St. George\u2019s University\u2019s School of Medicine is approved for its students to participate in the US Direct Loan Program and, in addition, the School of Medicine offers a variety of scholarships to help defray the costs of medical education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In fact, approximately 80% of the students in the School of Medicine use financial aid to pay for part or all of their medical school costs. There are two components of this scholarship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The CCLOE is an automatic award of $80,000 to students with a minimum overall undergraduate GPA of 3.7, a 3.5 science GPA, and a 29 (old)\/506 MCAT score who have been accepted by the Committee on Admission. This scholarship is awarded to the first 50 qualified students in each class to accept it and is distributed over four years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The University withholds the right to award this scholarship under certain unusual conditions.<\/strong> An award of up to $60,000 granted to students demonstrating academic excellence in their undergraduate education, the Legacy of Excellence Scholarship is a partial-tuition scholarship awarded to entering students who demonstrate the commitment and dedication necessary to achieve academic excellence in a rigorous medical curriculum based on their academic history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Students are identified during the admission application process and notified of their award through the Admissions Office upon acceptance into the University. Kopycinski, a former administrator at St. George’s University. Preference is given to students of Polish descent; however, students of all heritages have received these awards.
