{"id":97033,"date":"2022-08-25T11:04:00","date_gmt":"2022-08-25T11:04:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/worldscholarshipforum.com\/?p=97033"},"modified":"2023-11-15T23:47:12","modified_gmt":"2023-11-15T23:47:12","slug":"travel-awards-for-surgeons-in-developing-countries-at-acs-in-us-2019","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kiiky.com\/travel-awards-for-surgeons-in-developing-countries-at-acs-in-us-2019\/","title":{"rendered":"Travel Awards for Surgeons in Developing Countries at ACS in US"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The International Relations Committee of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) is pleased to announce travel awards for surgeons aged 30 to 50.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These awards provide international surgeons with the opportunity to attend and participate fully in the educational activities of the ACS annual Clinical Congress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They are proposed to specifically assist surgeons who work in community or regional hospitals or clinics in countries other than the United States and Canada or&nbsp;from poorly resourced academic departments of surgery in poorly resourced countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"0-what-you-need-to-know-about-the-travel-awards-for-surgeons-in-developing-countries-\"><span id=\"what-you-need-to-know-about-the-travel-awards-for-surgeons-in-developing-countries\"><strong>What You Need To Know About The&nbsp;Travel Awards for Surgeons in Developing Countries<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Each awardee will receive gratis registration to the annual Clinical Congress and to one available postgraduate course held during the Clinical Congress. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Assistance will be provided to obtain preferential housing in an economical hotel in the Clinical Congress city. In 2021, the Clinical Congress takes place in Chicago, IL, from October 4\u20138.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A new Community Surgeon Travel Award has been donated through the generosity of the Doctors Duremdes family designated for Filipino surgeons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It gives preference to meritorious applications from Iloilo Province, Panay Island, and non-urban Philippine communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"1-level-field-of-study-\"><span id=\"level-field-of-study\"><strong>Level \/ Field of Study<\/strong>:<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Conferences are available for graduates of schools of medicine who have completed their surgical training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"2-host-nationality-\"><span id=\"host-nationality\"><strong>Host Nationality<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The conference <\/strong>will be<strong> At the American College of Surgeons, Chicago, IL, USA.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"3-eligible-nationality-\"><span id=\"eligible-nationality\"><strong>ELIGIBLE NATIONALITY:<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This Conference is available for Developing Countries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"4-scholarship-worth-\"><span id=\"scholarship-worth\"><strong>Scholarship Worth:<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>These awards amount to $4,000 each. Each awardee will receive gratis registration to the annual Clinical Congress and to one available postgraduate course held during the Clinical Congress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to qualify for consideration by the selection committee, all of the requirements must be fulfilled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"5-the-travel-awards-for-surgeons-in-developing-countries-eligibility-\"><span id=\"the-travel-awards-for-surgeons-in-developing-countries-eligibility\"><strong>The&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>Travel Awards for Surgeons in Developing Countries&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>Eligibility:<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Applicants must be graduates of schools of medicine who have completed their surgical training.<\/li><li>Age is at least 30 years old, but under 50, on the date that the application completion.<\/li><li>The applicants must submit their applications from their intended permanent location. Applications will be accepted for processing only when the applicants have been in surgical practice, teaching, or research for a minimum of one year at their intended permanent location, following completion of all formal training (including fellowships and scholarships).<\/li><li>Applicants must show evidence of commitment to high-quality surgery, to surgical teaching, and to improving access to surgical care in their community.<\/li><li>Applicants must submit a fully completed application form provided by the College on its website. The application and accompanying materials must be submitted in English. The submission of a curriculum vitae only is not acceptable.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"additional-requirements\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Additional Requirements<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Preference will be given to applicants who have not already had training or <mark>surgical fellowships in the U.S. or Canada.<\/mark><\/li><li>Applicants must submit independently prepared letters of recommendation from three (3) of their colleagues. One letter must be from the chair of the department in which they hold a clinical or academic appointment or from a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons residing in their country. The chair\u2019s or the Fellow\u2019s letter is to directly address the applicant\u2019s commitment to high-quality surgery, surgical teaching, and improving access to surgical care locally. <mark>Letters of recommendation should be submitted by the persons making the recommendations.<\/mark><\/li><li><mark>The Community Surgeon Travel Awards must be used in the year for which they are designated.<\/mark> <mark>They cannot be postponed.<\/mark><\/li><li><mark>Awardees are expected to provide a written report upon their return home, specifically focusing on the value of the visit to the awardee and the potential beneficial effect on patients in the country of origin.<\/mark><\/li><li>Unsuccessful applicants may reapply only twice and only by completing and submitting a new application together with new supporting documentation.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Duration of Programme:\u00a0<\/strong>4th\u20138th\u00a0October 2022<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"6-how-to-apply-for-the-travel-awards-for-surgeons-in-developing-countries-\"><span id=\"how-to-apply-for-the-travel-awards-for-surgeons-in-developing-countries\"><strong>How to Apply For&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>The&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>Travel Awards for Surgeons in Developing Countries<\/strong><strong>:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>All applications for the year 2023 and all of the supporting documentation must be received online no later than <strong>July 1, 2023<\/strong>, in order for an applicant to receive consideration by the selection committee.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>All applicants will be notified of the selection committee\u2019s decision in November 2021.
