About Yale Young Global Scholars Program 2023

The Yale Young Global Scholars Program aims to empower the next generation of leaders by building a global community and creating interdisciplinary programs that promote intellectual curiosity, increase understanding, and encourage creative Action across all borders.

The Yale Young Global Scholars program also encourages an open, empirical, and synergic approach to learning. 

Every summer, students from over 120 countries, comprising the 50 U.S. states, participate in an inter-disciplinary two-week session at Yale University, leading them to be part of the global learning community.

This program has three sessions designed to allow students to experience learning in various contexts, from large lectures to small seminars and even impulsive learning in dining halls and around campus. Thus, the need for you to apply.

Yale Young Global Scholars Academics

Yale Young Global Scholars places a strong emphasis on a collaborative, open, and exploratory method of learning.

Their curriculum is created to give students the opportunity to learn in a range of university settings, including massive lectures, intimate seminars, and even the impromptu learning that takes place outside of the classroom in interactions with one another.

YYGS encourages students to approach all facets of the program creatively with the awareness that they determine their own bounds because there are no grades or course credit.

At the conclusion of the session, students are given an electronic certificate of completion.

The inclusive and diverse environment at YYGS encourages students to consider problems from several angles, which improves learning.

How Much Does The Yale Young Scholars Program Cost?

The Yale Young Scholars Program tuition for the two-week session is USD 6,500. This fee includes instruction, housing at one of Yale’s renowned residential colleges in New Haven, three meals per day, and optional health insurance. However, travel costs are not included in the program tuition.

Tuition fees are paid using a payment gateway because Yale Young Global Scholars use external payment processors to accommodate domestic and international applicants. 

Tuition payments can be subject to processing fees by the external payment processor (Slate or FlyWire). Hence, students can access this gateway by logging into their application, which will direct them to the Application Status page.

Also, if you reside within commuting distance of New Haven, you may participate as a day (commuter) student. This preference can be indicated in the “Additional Information” portion of the online application. Tuition for a day student is USD 5,500.

The Yale Young Global Scholars offers need-based financial aid that covers tuition and scholarships. These scholarships include

  • Young Leaders (YL) Scholarship

Who Can Apply For The Yale Young Global Scholars Program 2023?

To be eligible for the Yale Young Global Scholars Program, you must;

  • Be at least 16 years old by July 19, 2023 (the first day of Session III)
  • Be a current high school sophomore or junior (or international equivalent).
  •  Have the ability to participate in a rigorous academic curriculum conducted in English.
  • Be graduating in May/June 2024 or 2025 from the Northern Hemisphere or in the Southern Hemisphere in November/Dec— 2024 0r 2025.
  • Be a first-time participant in YYGS. If you have participated in any YYGS session during a previous summer, you are not eligible to participate in YYGS 2023.

Please note: If you previously applied to the Yale Young Global Scholars program but were not offered admission or could not attend AND meet the eligibility criteria noted above, then you are encouraged to re-apply for Yale Young Global Scholars Program 2023.

Yale University, United States, hosts the Yale Young Global Scholars Program.

Yale Young Global Scholars Program accepts applications from ALL countries and allows students to apply for need-based financial aid to students from ALL countries.

The Yale Young Scholars Program is open to current high school sophomores or juniors (or international equivalent).

How To Apply For The Yale Young Scholars Program 2023

Application for the Yale Young Scholars Program is made online. Click on the application link below to apply.

Required Documents

In other for your application to be complete, you must submit the following documents;

  • Activities list
  • One 500-word essay and one 200-word response
  • Two “fast take” responses (280 characters each)
  • Official school transcript
  • Two Recommenders (who will complete YYGS Recommendation Forms ONLY)
  • English fluency test scores (TOEFL or DuoLingo) – OPTIONAL
  • Need-based financial aid – OPTIONAL

Afterward, pay an application fee of $60 for Early Action and $75 for Regular Decision).

Also, Yale Young Global Scholars will waive the application fee if it adds a severe financial burden for the student’s family. The fee waiver option is only available for students who apply for need-based financial aid using the Yale Young Global Scholar online application. Students who apply for a fee waiver must have a school official finalize the form.

Therefore, you must click the Finalize & Pay button on the “Review” page for your application to be considered.

When Is The Deadline For The Yale Young Global Scholars Program 2023?

YYGS is excited to return to campus and offer residential sessions for June & July 2023. We have outlined policies and answered common questions on our Covid Updates webpage. Please know that we are not offering online sessions this summer.

Early Action

The application deadline for the early action pool applicants is 11:59 pm ET on November 10, 2023, and the application fee is USD 60. The applicants who submit during the early action pool period will be notified of Admission Status & Financial Aid by 11:59 pm ET on December 20, 2023. Also, the acceptance deadline is 11:59 pm ET on January 7, 2023

Regular Decision

Likewise, the application deadline for the regular decision applicants is 11:59 pm ET on January 12, and the application fee is $75 USD. Hence, applicants who submit during the normal decision pool period will be notified of Admission Status & Financial Aid by March 5 (11:59 pm ET). The acceptance deadline was 11:59 pm ET on March 15.
