More about YALI

The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) was launched by US President Barack Obama as an iconic effort to invest in the next generation of African leaders.

With more than 60% of its population under 35, Africa is rapidly becoming home to the largest number of young people in the world, which raises several questions about the future of Africa.

In July 2014, the president of the USA, Obama announced the creation of four Regional Leadership Centers (RLC) in Ghana, Kenya, Senegal, and South Africa to serve as regional centers across the continent to foster transformational learning and improve leadership skills.

There are four Regional Leadership Centers (Ghana, Kenya, Senegal, and South Africa). These centers serve as regional centers across the continent to foster transformational learning and improve leadership skills.

The YALI Regional Leadership Centers are a project of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in close collaboration with the MasterCard Foundation. Each regional leadership center is managed under a public/private partnership

The East African Regional Leadership Center (RLC), part of President Obama’s Young Leadership Initiative (YALI), will provide an innovative and revolutionary leadership training program in Africa.

The resources of the East African RLC project partners will help many outstanding young leaders gain access to peer networks, entrepreneurship support services, and innovative technology solutions.

The Leadership Development Program has been developed and will continue to develop partnerships with leading universities in the United States, local and international development organizations and the private sector to develop and implement a leadership training program.
