About Young Insurance Professionals Program

The African Reinsurance Corporation, headquartered in Lagos, Nigeria is an International Financial Institution with full diplomatic status.

It was established in February 1976 by the Member States of the new African Union (AU), formerly the Organisation of African Unity (OAU). The African Reinsurance Corporation (Africa Re) is the leading reinsurance company in Africa.

Young Insurance Professionals Program  (YIPP) Benefits

The top ten young  professionals who are successful in the completion of the YIPP program will receive sponsorship from

Africa Re to one of the major insurance/reinsurance events in Africa (AIO, FANAF); a certificate of completion issued by Africa Re and the London School of Insurance; and accelerated career development in the industry.

Young Insurance Professionals Program Eligibility

To be eligible for this insurance program, applicants must be citizens of a member state of Africa Re, and the maximum age required of applicants is 32 years.

Furthermore, a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and relevant work experience in an insurance or reinsurance company, insurance broking firm, or other related field are required.

In addition to the eligibility requirements listed already,  access to the internet and excellent writing and oral communication skills in English and French is required.

Young Insurance Professionals Program (YIPP) Application

Submission of an online application between May 7 and June 6, by interested candidates is requested to submit.

Applicants are to log on to http://younginsurancepro.com and click on “Register” to fill in the application form.

After the deadline, applications received will not be considered. Applicants must upload their curriculum vitae, cover letter, and reference forms. If deemed necessary, an interview may be part of the assessment process.

After the application process, successful applicants will be contacted by email before 30 June 2022 and must be available for the program commencement in July. There are various modules for this insurance program that must be taken. Candidates who do not participate in any of the modules will be excluded from the program.

After the application process, evaluation exercises and tests are incorporated and is focused on different objectives, such as having applicants memorize and improve their understanding of the concepts, procedures, and principles of African Reinsurance Corporation (Africa Re)  stated.

  1. Basic foundations in Reinsurance
  2. Technical Accounting
  3. Claims & Liability in Insurance & Reinsurance
  4. Fire & Marine

Module 1

This module focuses on:

  • Introduction to Reinsurance;
  • Intermediate Reinsurance and
  • Designing a Reinsurance Programme.

Module 2

The focus of this module is on the following,

  • Basic Reinsurance Technical Accounting and
  • Advanced Reinsurance Technical Accounting

Module 3

Module 3 focuses on

  • Introduction to Insurance & Reinsurance Claims Management;
  • Advance Insurance & Reinsurance Claims Management;
  • Basic Liability Insurance and Reinsurance and
  • Advanced Liability Insurance and Reinsurance.

Module 4

This module’s focus is on

  • Introduction to Fire Insurance & Reinsurance;
  • Advanced Fire Insurance & Reinsurance;
  • Marine Cargo Insurance & Reinsurance and
  • Marine Hull Insurance & Reinsurance.
