Queens College offers day and evening classes in its undergraduate College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and its Graduate School.

The college’s four academic divisions are divided into departments, each with its own chair and the faculty members who teach within it. In addition, there is a Weekend College, a Summer Session, and a Winter Session.

CUNY Queens College

Queens College is a public institution that was founded in the year 1937. It has a total undergraduate enrollment of about 16,680, its setting is urban, and the campus size is 84 acres. It utilizes a semester-based academic calendar.

Queens College’s current ranking in the 2019 edition of Best Colleges is Regional Universities North, 55. Also queens college tuition and fees for in-state are $7,138 (2018-19); out-of-state tuition and fees are $18,008 (2018-19).

Queens College which is located in the New York City borough of Queens is part of the City University of New York system.

At Queens College, there are over 100 areas of study within the fields of arts and humanities, education, mathematics, and natural sciences, and social sciences.

The many offerings for graduate students in the school include speech-language pathology and the highly ranked library and information studies program. Due to the school’s location, student life at Queens is a little bit different from that of more traditional universities.

Though there is a residence hall available, the vast majority of students at Queens College live off-campus, and most of them stay in New York after they graduate.

There are inexpensive daycare services for students who have children and a Weekend College that makes it possible for anyone to earn a four-year undergraduate degree by only attending classes on Friday evenings, Saturdays, and Sundays.

On-campus, Queens’s students can explore more than 100 clubs, join an intramural sports team or even get involved in varsity athletics.

There are about 20 intercollegiate Queens College Knights sports teams, which compete in the NCAA Division II East Coast Conference. Some of its notable alumni include comedian Jerry Seinfeld and musician Paul Simon.

The Queens College Tuition and Cost of Living

CUNY Queens College tuition is $6,530 per year for in-state residents. This is 7% cheaper than the national average public four-year tuition of $7,056. The cost is 70% cheaper than the average New York tuition of $22,120 for 4-year colleges.

Queens College Tuition ranks 8th in New York amongst 4-year colleges for affordability and is the 178th most expensive 4-year college in the state. If attending from out-of-state, the tuition is $13,920 which represents a 113% premium.

The school charges an additional fee of $608 in addition to tuition bringing the total effective in-state tuition to $7,138.

The Queens College Housing Costs

On-campus room and board are provided by the school at a cost of $14,370 per academic year. Students who want to live off-campus elsewhere in Flushing should budget at least this amount.

The estimated annual cost for books and supplies is $1,364.

 The Queens College Admission Requirements

CUNY Queens College usually requires applicants to be in the top 45 percent of SAT test-takers. The school always takes SAT composite scores down to 1080 on a 1600 scale, below which admission should be considered a reach.

The general estimate is that some students could be accepted with SATs as low as 995. The estimated average SAT composite for newly admitted students is 1165 out of 1600. A competitive SAT score is vital as 83 percent of applicants submit SAT scores to the school.

Also, the student will need very good grades in high school to get into CUNY Queens College. The average high school GPA of the admitted freshman class accepted at CUNY Queens College was 3.6 on a 4.0 scale indicating that primarily B+ students are accepted and ultimately attend.

Even with this competitive GPA, admission into Queens College will be challenging as the school denies more applicants than it admits.

Queens College is dedicated to assisting students through scholarships; they provide information about awards available on campus, as well as prestigious national programs. Scholarships may be based on academic merit, financial needs, a program of study, and student year.

Donald I. Brownstein/John McDermott Scholarship in Humanities     Scholarships to undergraduate students at the College who are majoring in or studying subject matters relating to a Humanities Discipline.$5,000
Ottensoser Award For Higher Education     The Ottensoser Award for Higher Education will provide an award(s) to assist with the costs associated with applying to graduate school (e.g., application fees, entrance exams, prep courses). Upper juniors and seniors who have an overall GPA of 3.5 or higher and demonstrate financial need will be considered for the award.Amount varies
Professor Michael Dohan Endowment Fund     The Fund will be used to provide need-based scholarships to students with a minimum 3.2 GPA within the Economics Department. Recipients must be in good standing in all areas of the College in order to be eligible.$1,500
Robert & Jacqueline Willens Queens College Scholarship Endowment     The Robert and Jacqueline Willens Queens College Scholarship shall be awarded to two students on a yearly basis. Additional requirements are as follows: 1. The recipient/s must be a United States citizen 2.$2,000 – $2,500
Steven Errera Scholarship In Economics     Four (4) $5,000 scholarship awards each academic year which will be distributed in $2,500 installments for two (2) semesters to four (4) sophomore or junior students, who have a demonstrated interest in the field of economics or business, are full-time students taking a minimum of 15 credits and have a minimum high school or college GPA of 2.5.$2,500 per semester for 2 semesters
