Scholarship Worth- How Much is the Indian Institute of Science Awards?
The value of the scholarship/fellowship per month for students enrolled in different programs of the Institute is as given below.
Ph.D. – Rs. 31000/35000
M Tech (Res) – Rs. 12400
M Tech/M Des – Rs. 12400
Integrated Ph.D. – Rs. 16000/31000/35000
Eligibility- Who Should Apply for the Indian Institute of Science Awards in India, 2023?
To be eligible, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Students are awarded scholarships/fellowships from the date of joining the Institute.
- All the students who join the Institute (except for M Mgt program) are eligible for scholarships/ fellowships from CSIR/UGC/DBT/ICMR/AICTE/DAE (NBHM)/ DST as the case may be.
- Candidates admitted to M Mgt are not entitled to any scholarships. Awards from GE, INFOSYS, IBM, HP, TATA, PHILIPS, BELL LAB, MICROSOFT, Department of Electronics and Information Technology are available for deserving students.
- Awards are provided for an entire period of 2 years in the case of M Tech and five years in the case of a Ph.D. from the date of commencement of the session.
- Candidates who receive a salary from their Employers/Sponsors are not eligible for any scholarship.
- Students who join the M Tech/ M Des programs agree, by default, that they will not leave the course midway. For unavoidable reasons/situations, they must refund the entire scholarship amount drawn by them before leaving the Institute.
- Candidates admitted to the master of management are not entitled to any scholarships.
Admission Requirements: For being accepted in any degree program, claimants must meet the university’s entry requirements.
Language Requirement: It is desirable that winning participants must have good proficiency in the English language.
Furthermore, immediately on joining the Institute, the students must send the joining report within 15 days to the agencies concerned appropriately for activating their fellowships.
Such students are entitled to fellowship payment from the respective agencies’ sanction date. IISc provides MHRD scholarships/fellowships for selected students whose entry mode is GATE/JEST/JAM and ME/M Tech/M Sc(Engg) qualified.

While IISc Bangalore is more orientated towards the research field, IIT Bombay is a classic engineering college where students are mostly motivated towards bagging an excellent package.
So getting admission into IISc is as difficult as getting top ranks in these exams. IISERs consider KVPY and JEE scores, but not NEET. It also admits students based on its aptitude test for science stream students who pass class 12 with marks equal to or above the cut-off percentage.
Droppers are allowed in IISc. You need to fulfill the eligibility for admission and appear for the required entrance exams and fall within the cut-off. Then you will be interviewed based on your performance and can be admitted to your program.
To get admission to IISc, you need to pass some exams. From Undergraduate to Ph.D. courses, there are entrance exams for each course. These entrance exams include NET, IIT JAM, JEST, CEED, GATE, JEE, KVPY, NEET UG etc.
Indian Institute of Science does not conduct any entrance exam for providing admission in UG, PG, Research & Ph. D. courses as To get access into these courses; the candidate must qualify the exams like JEE Main, JEE Advanced, NEET, JAM, KVPY, and GATE exams.
Firstly, candidates must fill out the application form to apply for admission. Selection will be based on the merit list of national-level examinations like KVPY, JEE Main, JEE Advanced, and NEET UG. Candidates must obtain marks in the examination as per the cut-off released by IISc.
