About Roger Casement Fellowship Programme

A human rights activist Roger Casement spent some of his early work life in Calabar, Nigeria. He was an early advocate for human rights while in Nigeria, and, famously, during his later work in the Congo, the Amazon, and in Ireland.

The Roger Casement fellowship is to honor the memory of the Irish human rights activist Roger Casement.

With his humanitarian legacy in mind, the Government of Ireland been decided to support one Nigerian student to study a master’s degree in human rights in Ireland.

The purpose of the Roger Casement Fellowship Programme is to provide talented candidates with the opportunity to pursue advanced education and professional development in Ireland in order to contribute to the future development of Nigeria.

Level/Field of Study

Basically, the Irish Aid Roger Casement Fellowship is for masters. Students who have completed their undergraduate studies can apply for this fellowship below the deadline.

In addition, the Roger Casement fellowship is only for courses such as Law, Human Rights, and Governance.

This means that you have to study any of these courses aforementioned in your undergraduate program or be ready to swap to them after studying a related course.

Host Nationality

The Government of Ireland gives this scholarship. And you can only study in a higher institution in Ireland.

This Roger casement fellowship is only for Nigerians. This fellowship program is a fellowship for honoring the Irish human rights activist who lived in Nigeria. That is why it is only eligible for Nigerians.

Scholarship Worth

The Ireland Fellows Programme is fully funded by the Irish Government and is offered under the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

The benefit of this Irish Aid Roger Casement Fellowship program is full financial support for one-year full-time post-graduate education to study Human Rights in Ireland. This is for candidates from Nigeria to undertake a one-year master’s program.

  • be a citizen of Nigeria and be residing in Nigeria
  • have achieved the necessary academic standard to be accepted onto a master’s level course of study in Human Rights
  • have a minimum of two years relevant work experience.
  • be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to the development of Nigeria.
  • be able to take up the fellowship in the academic year for which it is offered.
  • meet any relevant procedural requirements of the Government of Nigeria.

  • Already hold a master’s degree.
  • Have applied for the Roger Casement Fellowship more than twice and was not awarded. However, if he withdrew from the process previously, he may be considered if there were exceptional or unforeseen circumstances for withdrawal then.
  • They are currently working or will work in the future, at our embassies or headquarters. If you have worked in the Irish embassy or missions, you must allow a full year to pass before applying for the fellowship.

At this stage, you will fill out the application form. The Embassy will review your application and contact you once the decisions have been made.

Stage 3:

If you pass the interview stage, the applicant will be required to take IELTS (English language proficiency test). But, if you have written one either in 2019 or later, there is no need to rewrite it.
