About the Japanese Government MEXT Scholarships 2022

The Japanese government MEXT teacher training scholarship is granted by Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT). 

The Embassy of Japan is pleased to inform you that the Government of Japan will provide scholarships for Nigerian Primary/Secondary school teachers who desire to take teacher training course and Japanese language training in Japan.

These graduates or teachers must have taught at primary/secondary schools or teacher training colleges for at least five years in their home countries at the time of application.

The Embassy will like to use this opportunity to attract Nigerian schools that wish to start a Japanese Language class or course. Beneficiaries upon return will help to promote Japanese Language education in Nigeria.

Lastly, it is a fully-funded scholarship.

Who Should Apply for Japanese Government MEXT Teacher Training Scholarships?

Eligibility of Japanese Government MEXT Teacher Training Scholarship 2022

  • Applicants with Japanese nationality are not eligible unless they are dual nationals of Japan and another country and reside outside of Japan at the time of application.
  • Applicants must have been born on or after April 2, 1985.
  • Demonstrate excellent academic achievement with a grade point average of 2.30 (out of 3.00) or above in the last two academic years
  • Applicants should apply for the field they studied at the previous university or its related field.
  • Proficiency in English or Japanese language
  • Physically and mentally able to pursue studies in Japan.
  • Applicants must be able to leave for and arrive in Japan within two weeks before the date of the beginning of the third quarter in September 2022.
  • Before arriving in Japan, those selected to receive the MEXT Scholarship must acquire Student visas that are valid as of the date of the beginning of the third quarter in September 2022.

How do I apply for the MEXT Scholarship?
