This is an annual Master’s scholarship for suitably qualified candidates from selected sub-Saharan African countries on either the Development Economics MSc or Economics MSc.

University of Sussex PhD Economics Scholarship for African Students 2021 is available for the postgraduate degree program.

These scholarships are offered in Development Economics or Economics.

Number of Awards

University of Sussex PhD Economics Scholarship for African Students 2023 offers only one yearly scholarship.

Scholarship Award

A fee waiver of £15,100 plus a £10,000 maintenance grant. The scholarship includes the full payment of the overseas tuition fee and a maintenance grant of £10,000 but does not include travel expenses to and from the United Kingdom.

Host Nationality

Economics alumni and the Department of Economics of the University of Sussex, UK host and fund the University of Sussex PhD. Economics Scholarship, and is to be taken in the UK.

Eligible Nationality

The University of Sussex PhD. Economics Scholarship is open to indigenous students from any of the following sub-Saharan African countries:

Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Congo, Cote D’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Mali, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Sudan, South Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

University of Sussex PhD Economics Scholarship for African Students 2023 Eligibility

Applicants who are interested in this PhD. Economics Scholarship must be a national of one of the following sub-Saharan African countries:

Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Congo, Cote D’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Mali, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Sudan, South Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

  • Applicants must have completed their undergraduate degree in Africa.
  • Applicants must secure a place on either the Development Economics MSc or Economics MSc to start in September 2023.
  • The successful applicant must sign a Scholar’s Agreement from the Development & Alumni Relations Office.

College Admission Requirement

Entrance Requirement: Applicants must have completed their undergraduate degree in Africa.

Test Requirement: No

English Language Requirements: English is required for postgraduate study at Sussex, depending on your chosen course.

In terms of IELTS, the standard requirement is IELTS 6.5 overall, with at least 6.0 in each section.

How to Apply for the University of Sussex PhD Economics Scholarship 2023

To qualify for this scholarship, you must have a place on either the Development Economics MSc or Economics MSc to start in September 2023.

They must indicate in the finance section of their application to study at the University of Sussex that they wish to win this scholarship.

A separate scholarship application won’t be necessary.
