The Department of Civil and Coastal Engineering (ESSIE) University of Florida, is offering PhD Positions to students. Anyone with interests in coastal, estuarine, riverine hydrodynamics and/or eco-morphodynamics is encouraged to apply.

Study Subject: Two PhD Positions, on modelling of eco-morphodynamics and on storm surge forecasting, at University of Florida

Eligibility:
Students with a strong interest in computer modeling (although field work can be a complementary activity).
Particularly interested in applicants with a strong background in the physics governing processes in shallow water environments, and/or with strong mathematical/numerical skills.
One of the two positions will mainly focus on improving storm surge forecasts, and a good experience with numerical models (e.g. Delft3D), with data assimilation tools (e.g. OpenDA) and/or with operational forecasting and warning system (such as FEWS) is highly desirable.
The other position will mainly focus on numerical modeling of eco-morphodynamics, and a good experience with running a morphodynamic model (e.g. Delft3D) is highly desirable.

Application Deadlines: The funding for the two positions come from different sources, and they have different deadlines, but the research topics are free to be chosen. Therefore, the matching of applicants with research topics and funded positions will be decided based on the applications I will receive.
One position (either of the two mentioned above) will start in August 2017, with deadlines April 20th for a non-US applicant and May 20th for a US applicant. If no suitable applicant will be found by the deadline, the position will start in January 2018, with deadline August 20th for a non-US applicant and November 1st for a US applicant.
The other position will start in August 2017, and the deadline is very close, i.e. April 7h, 2017. If no suitable applicant will be found by the latter date, the position will start in August 2018, with the deadline of November 20, 2017.
