Yali network online courses [UPDATED]

The YALI (Young African Leaders Initiative) network has opened up Yali Network Free Online Courses 2021 new online learning opportunities for young people.

The YALI Network provides virtual resources and dynamic physical spaces to equip young African leaders with the skills and connections they need to bring about change in their communities and countries.

Founded by the president in April 2014, the network already has more than 68,000 members. With the help of yali.state.gov and social media, the United States offers online courses and materials and allows members to connect with world leaders in their field.

Next year, President Obama will continue mobilizing the YALI network through virtual public meetings.

What is the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI)? 

The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) is a signature effort to invest in the next generation of African leaders.

 YALI was created in 2010 to support young Africans as they spur growth and prosperity, strengthen democratic governance, and enhance peace and security across Africa.

There are three components of YALI: the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Regional Leadership Centers, and the YALI Network.

YALI Network members have access to a range of online courses and training materials as well as virtual mentoring and networking opportunities.

  • More than 20 MOOCs selected and 60 MOOC camps animated: YALI members have access to over 20 online courses (MOOC) that will offer 60 (animated) courses in MOOC camps in YALI rooms across Europe next year.
  • Custom Web Training Videos: The YALI Network Platform also provides access to customized training videos on leadership, business and entrepreneurship, civic leadership and public management with university professors and experts in their field.

The Free MOOC Courses training videos provide advice on everything from creating a business model to developing public-private partnerships, as well as additional discussion and development guides.

  • Meetups – Connecting to Home and Personal: On the YALI Network website, members receive a “Meetup” option that allows members to connect, network, and even collaborate on new initiatives.

Eligibility for Yali Network Free Online Courses

Applicants will not be discriminated against on the basis of race, color, gender, religion, socio-economic status, disability, sexual orientation, or gender identity.

Anyone with Internet access can take the courses. However, the courses are intended for young professionals with at least a secondary level education.

The YALI Network stems from the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI), whose aim is to invest in the next generation of African entrepreneurs, educators, activists, and innovators.

Program Length
6-week program at a U.S. college or university then an opportunity for up to 70 Mandela Washington Fellows to participate in a 4-week Professional Development Experience with a U.S. business, civil society organization, or public agency.

YALI stands for the Young African Leaders Initiative.  

YALI Regional Leadership Centers (RLCs) build on existing institutional capacity in Africa to provide high-quality training, mentorship, and networking support to young leaders beyond the Mandela Washington Fellows. RLCs provide on-the-continent programming focused on the Fellowship’s core themes – business, civic leadership, and public management. The four RLCs offer training throughout the year in English, French, and Portuguese and are located in Nairobi, Dakar, Accra, and Pretoria. Learn more about the RLCs.

 Through the Reciprocal Exchange component, Americans have the opportunity to apply for funding to travel to Africa to collaborate on projects with Fellows, building upon connections initiated while Fellows were in the United States.
